MG TD TF 1500 - Low Beam update
Haven't had a chance to pull apart the cluster of bullet connectors by the oil pump, however, have found that if I leave the high beams on for 5 minutes or so, and drop to low beams, I get the driver's side low beam. If I just turn on the low beams, I don't get a driver's side? When those lights (Lucas BPF Tripods) are on high beam, do both filaments (high and low) light up, or are they independent of each other... wondering if the amps pulled by the high beam 'warm' up the short or whatever I have going on? |

Hi Gordon Normally, the high and low beam are not on at the same time. I know I wired my dip switch incorrectly when I rebuilt my TD and had it so both beams came on at the same time and when I dipped them I was actually turning off the low beam. A police officer who was driving towards me pointed out my error. He was nice enough to let me off with a fix-it ticket. Sounds like one of the wires is not attached to the correct lead. |

Hadn't done anything to the wires/leads before this started, just found it strange that I have to sort of 'warm up' the low beam before it will come on..... With the low beams on (light not working) I put a probe on the headlight wires running up the inside of the fender and didn't have any 'hot' flowing...will wait till the light comes on and see if I do then (actually, I know I will, just be nice to know which wire it is). |

Gordon - Once you determine which wire goes to the low beam filiment, shut everything down for a day and stat over again, moving back that wire route until you find the connection that has high resistance in it. Sometimes the crimpped connection inside a male bullet can develop corrosion, resulting in high resistance. Good luck - Dave |
