MG TD TF 1500 - Lucas bullet connectors recycling
Because I am fitting a pair of Lucas SFT576 driving lamps to my TF, I wanted to maintain an additional link to the past, by recycling some old bits from previous restoration projects. My Lucas lamps are 1950's versions refurbished (by me) I don't normally hoard, but old MG harnesses, are gold when a restoration beckons. Now, if this has been done before, please accept my apologies in advance because up until this year, I have been away from this site for many years. My recent TF acquisition has rekindled my enthusiasm, and I really have been enjoying the to-ing, and fro-ing, of the daily activities. What I have done many times in the past, is to re-use the Lucas bullet connectors that came from old wiring harnesses. If you did not know, they are soldered at the ends, but an application of a little heat, from a small blow torch, will melt the solder and Voila! a re-useable connector. I will post up some images tomorrow, of the melting and re-using process, but please - tell me if I am rehashing known topics. Maurie Prior, NSW Australia |

Excellent idea. I know a lot of the later harnesses used crimped connectors, but I'm sure I have some 'saved' harnesses with soldered bullets. The modern bullets don't quite look the same when soldered. |

I am attaching two images of a tool I made to crimp the Lucas bullet connectors. Just an inexpensive set of multi-grips and a steady hand with the angle grinder! It does a great job of ensuring a solid connection. Maurie Prior |
