MG TD TF 1500 - Lucas Tripod Light Units

Not sure if this is the right place to put this....

But I was hoping I could get a little help here. I am trying to identify what type of Lucas Light these fit in. There are no #s anywhere.

what is the dia? How about a pic of the lens and another of the electric connections,

The lens measured 7 1/2". no electrical connections..

They look like Lucas PF770 lights. They were found in early 50's Jaguars, Bentleys, big Austins and other high end British cars. They look very nice when fitted to the TC 140 headlight bucket.

Hugh, Bobbie,

The "tripod" lamp displayed here uses, as you have noted, a 7" mounting. The Lucas L140 lamp is an 8" bowl and so won't fit. The full 8" Tripod lamps are scarce

However for the export market, Lucas made a 8" to 7" step-down rim, allowing the 7" tripod lamps and other sealed-beam lamps to be mounted in an 8" bowl.

I have a pair (need re-chroming) I would consider trading for the reflector interiors of the 8" Lucas L140 lamps.

Gord, I just measured my PF770 lights and they are 7.5" in diameter. Here is a picture showing one of these mounted in a TC headlight bucket. It fits well but only if a rim designed for 140 flat lenses is used. This "upgrade" is pretty standard for TC's and the only problem is finding the rims.

Hugh,

I think the issue here is nomenclature. If your PF770 will fit the l140 bucket, then I would call it an 8" lamp. even if its 7½".

The 7" lamp as fitted to the TD, is a model 525 lamp.

As for Abingdon's lamp, I think we need a measurement ... could even be a L150. I have one here and can measure if necessary.

PS:- I'm still looking for the interiors (pair) for the L140 lamp. I just found a pair of nice buckets and rims but missing the interiors - reflectors, sockets, etc.
