MG TD TF 1500 - Lucus Fog Lights

Hi:
I have a pair of Lucus driving lights, one a "flame-thrower" the other a "flood" and I would like to convert themov to yellow fog lights for my TF. I can not find a suppler that lists the yellow fog lenses and bulbs. Does anyone know a suppler?

Woops Probably helps if I spell Lucas correctly :>)

If the Flamethrower (7") is like mine, changing the lens is a bear of an operation. It is crimped in and uncrimping is tedious, re-crimping more so. I had to because the lens on mine was cracked. I found a new one on British eBay. I remember that the seller had a yellow one, too, so it is possible. If there was a yellow filter, I would recommend that first.

To All --- The yellow driving light lenses are difficult to find. There are two kinds, those that are fluted and those that are not (clear but yellow). The clear are extremely hard to find and are not all the same color. I looked for over a year before finding a second one and it does not exactly match the first one, but it is close.

But they look so nice on a BRG car!

John,
Took me several years to find them on ebay.
Not easy to come by ..but they do come up from time to time. I did send an email to a friend in UK and asked him to look for you. Will let you know if I have any luck.

If your lights are "original" Lucas flame throwers you might like to purchase repro yellow ones and put those on ebay (speaking of ebay) as a flamethrower is going for close to $200.00 each!

I have the yellow clear (non-fluted) Lucas on my car, because I like the way they look, but I bought them in 1970's and they were hard to find even then. I have a special made holder to hold the wire guards in front of them. Wish I could help you find them - I hope I don't break mine as I seldom have seen any since. (They were available in Clear and Yellow, and each of those fluted or non-fluted.)

An eBay seller named albion_wheels often lists Lucas lamps. In some of his listings he mentions yellow lenses and suggests he has parts for Lucas lamps. As an example, eBay auction number 4611323010 includes the statement:

"I also have some good used SFT576 fog lamps, similar to these, several SLR576 spot lamps with clear and yellow lenses, and a selection of NOS ones."

Here is a link that might be of help:

It might be worth contacting albion_wheels to see if he can help you. I have never done business with albion_wheels.

Wow - thnx 4 all the info! It appears that what I have is a pair of SFT576 Lucas lights - one has a "flood" pattern and the other a "spot" pattern (not a true flame thrower). The spot light puts out a beam that lights up road signs 1/3 of a mile away. Sounds nice but it really is useless if I remember right as I have not had them on a car since 1963.
The yellow lens would certainly look nice on the TF but as an alternative in the meanwhile is there a yellow bulb available to use with clear fog light lenses?

John,
Sorry to say my friend in the UK got back to me and has none of these right now but did say he would let me know if he finds a set. They do make amber lens for the SFT576. I run one each, amber clear "driving lamp" and one amber fluted fog lamp. (on seprate switches). The fluted fog is awsume in fog works great!
I have done business with albion_wheels and found them to be excelent seller on ebay..worth asking them!

A well aimed flame thrower is great when you are on a road late late at night... My clear shines about 1/3mile in a straight line (must be adjusted correctly) and the fluted one does the sides and front of the car... With all the lights on, there is not an inch of road not lit....(tripods with 50/45's)
Am still looking for the 60/45 "Royal" round bulbs I had when I started driving it.
