MG TD TF 1500 - Manifold, Air intake
Working on a 51 #7421 engine #7914. I bought a air cleaner that does not fit (a use part). Looking closer, my manifold is a little different. The upper edge is bowed up, the neck going back to the air filter is offset forward about two inches. It is Al. with the 'MG' logo on it. The carb mountings has a extra whole not threaded. The neck has a threaded whole just in front of the air cleaner. There is also a 'bump' on the forward side of the neck mid way. What do I have and how do I put a fliter on it? Bernie |

What you have is a "Z" series Magnette air cleaner manifold. If it is for 1 1/4" carbs it is from a ZA, if it is for 1 1/2" carbs it is for a very early ZB. If it is for the ZB, let me know if you want to sell it. Hugh '48 TC, '33 J-2, '58 Magnette |

Hugh The carbs are 1 1/4". What type of air cleaner would be on this. The oil bath does not work. |

All the photos I have seen of Z types show a different style of oil bath when compared to TDs. |

I will confirm that a TD bath will not work. I have not been able to fine a picture of a Z manifold. Looks like its time to start looking for a TD manifold. |
