MG TD TF 1500 - MarkII placard on rear bumper?

I have a 1953 MG TD - Does anyone know the correct positioning of the MARKII placard on the rear bumper?

Well you have me on that one. I was only aware of the hood placards, the large b/w MG Logo for the spare wheel, and then the reflectors. Don't recall a bumper placard but I would love to see one if they exists.

The Mark II placard is placed in the center of the rear bumper, just above the bumper bolt securing the chrome bumper to the inner strengthening bar. It seems to be evenly spaced between the upper edge and the bolt. I think I have a photo in my file showing the layout if you need it. I suspect the contour of the placard base will fit the contour of the bumper face and lead you to the exact location.

I agree with Jim, Toney. My 53 has the piece in the center.

Thanks for the positioning information, Jim! and all others for the responses. Chris - I didn't realize there was one, either.... until I saw it advertised. Apparently they are available, now I can obtain one and add it to my restoration.

I wonder what serial these appeared in. I am pretty sure they must be very late 52 or 53? Toney do you have any evidence that yours had one originally? Mike and Jim what are your serials? Email me if you like.

Are all yours past TDC 22613 on Engine number? (late 52?)
Chris Couper

Chris, my TD is not a Mark II I am sad to report. However, according to my factory parts catalog, the distinctive features like the bumper and bonnet Mark II badges were not added until Chassis #22613. There were other additions like the passenger grab handle and other items which I wont list here. Remember that the Mark II model was one of slow evolution and it all started with a more powerful engine. They all didnt look like the final model produced.

Thanks for the comment Tim. I was just trying to hone in on where some of these changes occured from Mark II owners. I am always interested in getting a bit finer details on when some of these subtle changes may have taken place.
Chris Couper

Chris, if there is any info you need concerning peculiar parts on the Mark II, I would be pleased to research it for you or provide copies of the pertinent pages from my parts book. I think I can do that with my scanner but not positive. Willing to try though.

If anyone would like to contribute a nice picture or two of the Mark II badging to the Original MGTD midget pages please email me. Credit gladly given.
Chris Couper

Thanks to all for the info about serials in ref to the MarkII chassis number and whether badged or not. Mine is number 22720, so would be a badged one.

By the way, it came to me minus a bumper, so that is why I don't have a point of reference. - Toney
