MG TD TF 1500 - Master Cylinder Inspection Plate
They say that a day you don't learn something is a wasted day. Well today was not wasted.
I was updating my TD fastener list and trying to figure out what length the screws or bolts that hold the master cylinder inspection plate to the floorboard is. I looked on the various sites and did find the plate, but not the screws/bolts. I sent Chris Cooper an Email and he sent me a picture from the TD shop manal https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=2&ik=1b7820d2c1&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-a:r-2762682892437680635&th=16f01e2a80c762fc&view=att&disp=safe&realattid=16f017425aec36455a91 In that picture it is unclear if this is a 2BA machine screw that goes into a T nut or if it is simply a round head slotted screw that screws into the floorboard. But here is what I learned. The plate is the same as used on the TA through the TF. Left Hand Drive TD's had the plate prior to car 4237. This was the introduction of the cutout in the LHD TD floor and a rubber plug was used. All Right Hand Drive Cars had the inspection plate. I am assuming that this is because they did not have the foot well due to the location of the exhaust down tube. If anyone can clarify if the cover goes on with a machine screw or a wood screw and what the top looked like, I would appreciate that information. |

Just slotted wood screws on my TF 1500.

Matthew: What screws/washers are holding down your pedal excluder? I thought those were also the same round headed wood screws with no washers as the plate. |
Christopher Couper |
Bruce, On RHD TFs, originally the Master Cylinder Inspection Plate was affixed to the floorboard with two(2) screws going into T nuts ie. they are not just wood screws. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177(Athos"). |

Sorry guys, my bad. I went and checked, yes they are T nuts. Chris, no washers, just little circles of dust. |
M Magilton |
Rob. Round head slotted? |
Bruce Cunha |
Matthew: T nuts and round headed machine screws for the excluder too or they wood screws? |
Christopher Couper |
Bruce, From memory, round (small) head slotted into T nuts for the Master Cylinder inspection Plate. Around excluder with affixing plate, wood screws. Cheers Rob Grantham |

Thanks Rob. |
Christopher Couper |
Yes, wood screws for the excluder. |

William: Yep. Thanks for the clarification on that one that goes into the pedal box. |
Christopher Couper |
Definitely 2 BA machine screws into T nuts. See Pic. Can't confirm the head type though. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
