MG TD TF 1500 - Mathew Magilton - Steering Wheel
Mathew, who made the original steering wheel for the mgtf? I can find no makers stamp anywhere inside or outside the hub. I'm pretty sure that if anyone knows this, you would be the man! Thanks, Paul |

Paul, yeah Mathew would know I reckon In the meantime this is interesting reading, doesn't get to TF's but interesting anyway---- http://www.mg-tabc.org/library/mg_steering_wheels.htm |

The last original NOS steering wheel I had was marked with the WB logo (Wilmot Breeden), and "Birmingham." I cannot be certain, but would suggest that reproductions would lack these features. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

The reason I asked was, my wheel on the 55TF has no markings, which I would assume would be in or on the hub somewhere. My car was owned by a doctor from California, which his brother wrecked by loosing control and sliding along a guard rail. The car was in storage in the doctors garage for over 20+ years maybe longer. The steering wheel was slightly bent when I got it, so, I assumed it was the original wheel? Who knows. Just curious. Tom Lange wins the prize. :-) https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_suppliers.htm |

Matthew has several postings this elsewhere. The colour, presence or absence of marbelling and the use of logos (there is also on that looks like a crown) and number stamping all vary-although some have no markings. Rather a minefield!

Here is a link to make your steering wheel a laminated wooden wheel, not original but I love mine! https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/steeringwheel.htm Cheers Len |

Wilmot Breeden as far as I know, although I have never been able to find any names/trade marks on the several original wheels that I have examined. |

Thanks Mathew, so it's a strong possibility that I have the original wheel even though it has no markings. Here it is after I did what I could to preserve it. Even though It's stored in a box for the next care taker, it'll stay with the car. Again, thank you. PJ

That really is a nice car Paul, you must be very proud of it. Also, back to steering wheels, here a while back I'd been talking on-line to a guy (Rocky) with an MGY with a std. black steering wheel which he wiped clean with a polishing cloth that he'd used to polish his car using turtle wax---something on the cloth or in the remaining polish on it melted the rim of his wheel overnight just leaving the metal core. I'll see if I can find the link to it-------------- willy |

Willy, the link you sent about the wheel was rejected because of an error or errors. Is there another way you could send it? The internet is not being friendly. PJ |

Hmm It's in the archive section of MGY on this site listed under - - Melting steering wheels |

Yeah, you need to COPY the link text string only (not the url!) and then paste it into the browser for it to work. For some reason, when the BBS posts a link it wraps other stuff into the URL. Try *copying* the following string, then pasting into your browser's URL field and hitting enter: mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=13&subjectar=13&thread=20230209082414214528 That worked for me. |

Stuart Duncan had transfered it over to TD/TF so I've reactivated it here under Melting steering wheel |
