MG TD TF 1500 - Medallion stud measurements
I've started a new thread here as the medallion thread was getting out of hand :) Could someone please measure the stud on the rear of the medallion and tell me its length and diameter? I'm going to have to make one on my lathe! Thanks for the help! |

Geoff, does it matter exactly how long it is? The simple answer is that it has to be long enough to accept the threaded hole for the mounting screw, and short enough not to bottom out in the steering wheel boss. warmly, Dave |

Hi Dave, I don't have the correct steering wheel/hub yet to do that. I thought if someone had one sitting on a shelf and measured it, I could go ahead and be making the part before the steering wheel arrived, yours, Geoff |

geoff, measuring from the plastic hub out, from the shoulder of the stud...the portion of the stud that is cut off on you piece, measures .600" in length, is .375" in diameter and the center of the threaded hole is .375" from the shoulder of the stud. regards, tom |

Thanks Tom, here's a picture of my handmade stud based on the measurements you gave me. I haven't drilled or tapped the screw hole but I made a pilot mark so I can drill cleanly through the center of it. I believe Moss sells the screw that fits it so I will order one and then tap it accordingly. I must admit, I'm enjoying playing on my Sherline lathe! Great for exactly this kind of project! |

geoff, there might be some paralax on the photo image, but by holding a piece of card stock up to the minor diameter (.375") and using that distance to measure up from the shoulder to hole center..it seems the card measurement fell just inside the hole edge for your screw location which should be .375" up from the shoulder. perhaps it is just the pic. regards, tom |

Tom, I measured .375 inches from shoulder to screw location, so I think it's probably the camera. When the wheel arrives and I get it all fitted together I will mark it using the wheel screw hole to verify ; if it's off I'll just rotate and mark and redrill. But it should be exact to a few thousandths at this point... of course, every wheel probably has variations! As far as your measurements, it is at an angle and lying at an angle too. Probably hard to get any accuracy from those. Plus - crappy camera! Thanks for supplying me with the measurements, very helpful indeed! |
