MG TD TF 1500 - MG AuctionWatch updated
Hi guys, Just a quick word to let you know MG AuctionWatch (http://www.mgauctionwatch.com) has had another update. The biggie is that you can now see listings from eBay sites other than your own. On a listings page, you will see a checkbox at the top that reads "Show international items". Tick it and it will return results from five eBay sites: ebay.com, ebay.ca, ebay.co.uk, ebay.com.au and ebay.de. I originally had a "global" feature like this but had to remove it as it was too slow; I've since found a way to load the page in stages, so I've added it back in. It should mean the advanced T-Type filter query the site uses will pull back more items for you to sift through. I've also added a "parts bin" search which lists all the generic auctions such as "MG steering wheel" and even "MG Parts". The idea is that amongst the 'junk' you might find a mislisted gem. The index page has changed to give a bit more exposure to the useful features such as the Lucas Parts search; if you're missing the old one, it's now under the second option, 'MG Auction Listings'. Best Regards, Steve http://www.mgauctionwatch.com |

Steve - thanks so much for all of your efforts on the site. It is linked to our clubs website and members really appreciate that feature. You still include Craigslist don't you? I have always wondered if there was a way to capture the online listings from the various newspapers - wouldn't that be cool! Thanks again, Jeff |

Hello Jeff, Good to hear the site is a useful resource for you and your fellow club members. The site actually only covers eBay, but I have put together a sister site called MG AdWatch (http://www.mgadwatch.com) which scours Craigslist and some other online classified ad sources. It's still a work in progress, but by some time next year I hope it will be a comprehensive source! All the best, Steve http://www.mgauctionwatch.com |

BTW, the moment that Craig finds that you have created a tool that "scours craigs list", you will receive a legal letter instructing you to cease and desist. He is adamant about his site being for local sales and the agreement you click to use the site includes verbage agreeing not to make or use such tools. Don't waste too much time on it. OTOH, it is quite easy to go to google and do a search on site:craigslist.org mgtd and get interesting results. Not much craig can do about standard search functionality like that... Thanks for that David - I am aware of the company's sentiment against "megasearches" for Craigslist. There is an exception in the Terms of Service to index auctions of interest for non-commerical use and I believe my website is complying with it - though if I were told to remove the functionality I of course would. |

I dunno, Steve, after all, you ARE in South Korea ;-) Just kidding of course. I just wanted to keep you from spending vast quantities of time and effort to wind up with a "cease and desist". Not everyone is aware of the parochial nature of Craig's. David "I love MGAuctionWatch.com" Lieb |
