MG TD TF 1500 - MG During WWII
I have heard that MG made army vehicles during WWII. As I did not see any category for this topic on the BBS, thought I would ask our friends in the UK if there are groups that have restored any of these vehicles. I would love to see some. |

I think they only made airplane parts, and the way Cecil Kimber secured the profitable deals without informing the bosses at Morris caused a bitter row that made Cecil Kimber resign from the MG Car Company? |

During the WWII Abingdon produced Tanks. They were small but looked very business like. Check out Wilson Mc Combs book "The Story Of The MG Sports Car" page 130 Illustration #73. They also produced a number of parts for various aircraft during the war including engine mountings for the Rolls Merlin engines used the Landcaster bombers. George Herschell |

An MG Tank. Oh God, I just drooled all over the keyboard. Now that would be something to drive to GOF. |

An interesting article about "Abingdon's war effort" appeared in the July 1995 issue of "MG Enthusiast Magazine" page 27/31 and written by Malcolm Green. Lots of photos too. Hope this may help. Cheers, Nick, 52TD/63midget |

Nick Any potential you could copy that? I would glady pay for the copying. Otherwise, anyone know where I might find that? I do a bit of military vehicle stuff. My frend and I have a 41 jeep and a 42 staff car. I would guess there are few if any MG tanks left and even fewer in the US |

Have several "gray men in thin suits" (lawyers) and goverment agenceys (BWC) I need to run some errons to! LOL Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

I wonder if the MG Tanks used Lucas electrics? If so, how the hell did we win? I don't suppose they used Bosch. |

Thanks Nick With that article I did some other looking. From what I found. Abington was assigned to primarly repair vehicles. I thought I read at one time they made a small scout car, but so far I have not found any information. J James. Interestingly, I did find a dealer in the UK where you can buy some nice used Russian tanks. |

They made I think the fuselages and cockpits for Albemarle Bombers. Contracting for Vickers from memory as well as the small tanks already identified. Apparently they streamlined the production of the bomber parts to such an extent that other contractors were unable to keep up with Abingdon. I have all the details of their war production in old Safety Fast magazines but to find it would be a bit of a mission. Cheers, Paul. |
