MG TD TF 1500 - MG Sound Deadener
Originally, there was a type of rubberized felt applied to the transmission cover that I presume was used to resist heat transfer and maybe as a sound deadener. I can't find any info on Google using "Rubberized Felt". It might not be manufactured anymore. Anyone know of a source for this material or what might be the correct name? |

Jim - There is a product on the market that is basically flexable asphalt with an adhesive backing on it. I don't remember the proper name of it, but if you go to some place like NAPA or other good auto parts store (particularly one tha carries painting supplies) and ask for sound deadning sheets, they should be able to tell you and provide it for you. Jim I went to Lowes homestore and purchased a roll of insulation, the kind that is about 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick and is silver in color and cut to fit. I cut one piece and put under the carpet, no one can see it but it sure cut down on both the noise and heat and best of all - moisture will not hurt it. In the colder months, I do take it out to get a little more heat. tim |

Jim: I bought some stuff as you described in a local "surplus" store. a 20x30 sheet cost me $2.50.Enough to do the TD. If you want a sample, I have some scraps left which I can send to you, if you wil give me your mailing address off list. This appears to be a cork like material impregnated w/ an asphalt or rubber like substance & about 1/8 in. thick. Flexible and easy to cut. Glued right up to the Trans.cover. I can get some more. Jim You may also want to check with a local Recreation vehicle / trailer accessory store. Most carry sound deadening material for RV's and trailers. John |
