MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD doors locking lever anyone?

I am wondering if anyone has an extra locking lever as shown in this thread, http://server88-208-245-106.live-servers.net/mgtd-mgtf1500-bbs/door-lock-latch-2013051521554125188.htm
or if not, does anyone else need one. If so, I may get some fabricated and chrome plated.

Sorry Rich
your just a little too late for me. I made the elaborate brass version. I Had been looking for 30 years and broke down and reinvented the wheel.

Ray lee's version (the original) is the way to go and won't take 4 hours to fabricate and add. (each)

Other than the therapy, there is no need to spend all that time filing and stuff.

On the plus side - it did keep me away form the honey do list. :)

Good luck with the venture - it is a worthy cause I think.

I'd be very interested in two if you do go ahead and fabricate some. I suspect many others would be interested once word gets out.

I know that sometimes I can sound like a stuck record on this one, but:

there are a number of reasons for the door flying open whilst 'in flight', and locking the door catch will not prevent at least one common cause, body flex when the male part (!) is set with too little depth into the 'female' part. I can't think of the correct technical terms for this.

The catch does have two positions and the outer one is intended to prevent the door opening if the inner one fails. This suggests three possible reasons for failure.

a) the male is set so that it only holds on the outer catch
b) the male is set to latch on to the inner catch but set too shallowly in the female part
c) the male and/or femal part is badly worn or the mechanism loose so that comes away when the body flexes

Apart from the obvious of replacing the worn parts, with care and persistence (using shims and washers) the door latch can be fitted so that the two working parts bed firmly and safely, the door clicking shut with a firm sound. It may take a couple of days of fiddly adjustment but it can be done.

Both my TD and TF are driven hard over poor ground and the doors stay firmly and safely shut.

Ian,

Excellent appraisal of the door lock situation.

Additonally,to get the door lock to enter the striker plate wedge truly, small wood made up tapers(1 pair to be located under the striker plate ) that slightly tilt the striker plate toward the door lock make all the difference to both efficent door closure and reliable lock holding.

Of course all these factors are relevant assuming the front quarter panel and door post wood in particular is sound.

Cheers.

Peter.

There is a different and IMHO more secure solution.
It is detailed in this thread.
