MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD Master cylinder removal

I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I'm kinda new at this. I'm trying to remove the master cylinder from my TD # 9747, right hand drive. I have the floor board out but engine and transmission are still in the car. In the Heck-hole where the pedals reside, I see attached to the brake pedal a push rod with pin and cotter pin, attached to my master cylinder via the push rod with two threaded nuts. The master cylinder is detached from the frame. What is holding my master cylinder to the pedal push rod? I don't see a circlip.
Thanks for all the expertise.

there is a spring on the brake lever if I remember correctly, its a real pain in the proverbial to fit and remove. the spring goes through a small hole in the bottom of the pedal box and onto the bottom of the pedal itself. best to remove the pedals anyway and give them a check as the bushes wear. also gives you a chance to clean out the pedal box.

When I removed my m/c, I undid the bolts and the line and it slid right off the push rod... rebuilt it and slid it back on (I know, I know...should have gone further....)

mog, you are a glutten for punishment arn't you. That is the only job I put off unless I absolutly have to.

Dave, As I remember it, Gordon;s response is what I found. The MC activating rod is attached to the brake pedal but slided into the MC. Once you take the bolts of theMC off, you should be able to slide it off the rod.

If not, on my TD (early) there was a removable plate on the pedal box.

I was rather surprised to see my name above that question, as I have removed the master cylinder as described by Gordon. Sid, I have seen this happen with others previously, so it obviously happens and really doesn't hurt anything (as long as you don't cuss someone out under my name). No error, no foul :) Cheers - Dave

bruce, yes, in fact its next on the list, after, mot for the lr, sprite, mga....

might take it (td) off the road if the a is running soon, and swap to silicone fluid over the winter in a quiet time, but its just so much fun.

Can happen if you send someone a link to the forum from your address field... they then become you....!!!!!

Sid, not postive the RHD is the same, but usually rust and gunk is all holding it on after unbolting. The pushrod is about 3/8" by a couple inches long, and it inserts through the rubber bellows into a hole in the master cylinder piston. They sometimes rust together. There is no mechanical link that I am aware of. George
