MG TD TF 1500 - M.G. Trivia (the 'name')
Ever wonder about "Booker T. & the M.G.'s"? "Another Stax band featuring Jones, called The Triumphs, had succeeded with a regional hit called "Burnt Biscuits." Jackson suggested another car name, The MG's. Stax even contacted the automobile makers in an effort to somehow cross-promote each other, but according to legend, the car company did not want to be associated with such music. Everybody liked Jackson's name, so MG became "Memphis Group." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_T._&_the_M.G.'s Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

Booker T and the MG'S - It was widely believed that it stood for "Memphis Guys". That is not true - one of the band members had an MG and that is where they got the name he said I have it around here somewhere - but directly from his mouth. I successfully challenged a radio show on that and won! PS, I was a rock and roll singer songwriter in the 60's under another name and am in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Inductee #200 - that's why I know this stuff! (Yes there is a little bitty hall of fame for Rockabilly - Recently when Johnny Cash died they mentioned it because he is the only one in all three -Rock and Roll, Rockabilly and Country) Keith in NJ - probably inducted because I'm the only one alive! |

Keith???, Naw... it can't be Keith married to the Candy Queen...friend of Jack Gates (violin player from Cleveland)...and played the air raid siren for the only know "live" gig done by Mutha Goose bout 76/77 in some obsure PA. Town (name eludes me right now)....w/sound & lights (and not so mild mild explosions) supplied by Screams & Roses Sound Co. The world is not "that small" ...unless of course you actually remember "screams" (aka Schroder / ME) or "roses" (aka the albino: Ray Halloway. Naw ...can't be. Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

Ahhhh... Keith (O'conner) Murphy... could this perhaps be you as a lead singer? http://www.indiana45s.com/bandphotos/Torkays_OakHill_Winter1961.jpg |

Keith, Yea, "O'Conner" ..I was trying to remember and thought it was just "Conner" ...I was very active in the audio world (late 60's through early 80's) as an audio engineer. Screams & Roses Sound & Light was my company, and really think we might have crossed paths! We operated out of Warren,OH. and did concerts/clubs mostly in OH.PA.&,IN. market. New Castle PA. was our 1st "large outdoor concert" ...were you there? ..Lots of small clubs in Cleveland (could of been in one of those also). Sold off the PA when INS cost got too high and went to work for Showco then later for a "local group" (The James Gang) ...ended up doing studio work before getting into broadcast in the early 80's. Talk about "fuzzy memories" ...LOL ...More I think about it ...if your wife was the "Candy Queen" ...I'll bet it was in Cleveland or at Heddin Studio's in IL.????? Cheers, "Schroeder" |

Hi Keith here, You have some ot the info right, all kind of mixed together. I had a record as Keith O'Conner on Stacy label (Cindy Lou/Little Loved One) and by my band name The Torkays (Karate) Dave in Ohio - The only big venue I remember in Ohio was with my last band Keith Murphy and the Daze - On King label and Polydor in UK - we went by the name Daze - just remember the Hulabaloo Club in Dayton Ohio in 65 or 67. We played along side the Chosen Few - whose John Cascella went on to become the keyboard for John Mellencamp. We were from Grant County Indiana. And G Lawson, father of my wood steering wheel, nailed it. I am supposed to be working on a bio for the Rockabilly Hall of Fame - right now I am just a name - scroll to #200 at http://www.rockabillyhall.com/Certificates.html Got to mention Dave DuBois who has been a font of wisdom to me and I have used his info as editor of NJMGT newsletter Octagonia. Dave of Ohio - The wrong Candy Queen - don't know how that came in, but my candy queen (Good Housekeeping dubbed her that and it stuck) was on Martha Stewart, The View, etc. Her site with the celebs is www.brendamurphy.com. Click projects. I think as I recall there is ONE picture of me in a celebration hat as we were guests on Rosie O'Donnells 1000th show, as Brenda had been on a few times. I have good MG friends in Canada - Bob Gruneau, Barc Cunningham - both saved my rear when in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland I was about to lose a valve and ran on three cylinders for 2,000 miles!!
