I have a heater that was once installed in my TD. I haven't looked for any data plate on it, so I don't know much about it...if you are interested in it, I will pull it out of hiding! It is approximately 6x6 and has a fan and control built in. I don't know if the fan works, but I will try it. I hated to part with it, because, I thought, if I ever wanted heat, it would be difficult to replace. If I could get around $125, I think that I could be persuaded. Let me know if you are interested. |

Tim, Rick Rodriguez from Edmonds Wash.(elan@wolfenet.com) posted an ad on the for sale list today,..."original mgtd gas heater." You might want to see what he has. Hope this is helpful. |

I used a Smith's heater from a TR3A in my 1950 TD. It is small and round, about 8 inches in diameter and fits nicely under the dash, hidden from view. I put the fan control switch (with its own fuse) also on the underside of the dash by the driver's side. It has 2 pull down vents that allow you to control(?) the amount of heat that comes out. It is great in the cold climes of Upstate NY and the best part, it cost $25, found from one of the suppliers of used mg parts in Hemmings motor news. Of course you will have to decide how to get the hot water from either the engine or the radiator and where to put the hoses. I used a cylinder take- off that was made specifically for this use and routed the water hoses on the right side of the firewall through holes that were already there. Good luck and call around to find a good used part or two for a reasonable price. Rob |

Are you interested in originality or practicality? If the latter, try the Holden Co. at www.holden.co.uk. They sell a new heater that works like the old Arnolt aftermarket ones, using your coolant and an electric fan. I forget the cost, but I seem to remember it was around US$100. Of course, shipping would add to that. You'll probably have to email them or order their catalog, they show only a small selection of items on-line and I don't think the heater is one of them. If you are interested, I can look it up in my copy of the catalog and give you more details. |

I used Mini heaters, available from minimania.com. The plumbing connections came from loss through Skip Kelsey. I originally used a Mark 1 (recirculating) heater, which worked pretty well. I dramatically improved things by upgrading to a Mark II, which is a fresh air heater. This required cutting a hole in the floor just below the steering column, and routing a threeinch flexible hose out under the car, but it is at least three times as effective as the recirculating heater(which is now for sale).
