MG TD TF 1500 - MGTD/TF OEM
Those that have been following the 'Who made the TD air cleaners' thread were probably wondering why I started it. I was on a quest to understand, at least superficially, who the original equipment manufacturers (OEM) were for the MGTD and mgtf. Many of these companies were household names in the 50's and a few still survive today, but not necessarily in their prior form or function. I have compiled a brief list and abstract of the major companies and each has an interesting advertisement to go with it. The stories are very interesting and interwoven. In many cases they represent the who's who of early automotive entrepreneurs or industrialists. Its a good thing this is on the Internet and I could use hypertext markup as the stories and companies are very interrelated. If you have any companies I did not included let me know. Enjoy. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_suppliers.htm |

Chris, I cannot tell you how "valuable" your site has been in the process of restoring my TD. I am always in awe of people that can amass and organize the vast amount of information and make it simple for the rest of us to read and understand. Thank-you. |

Matthew: You were close on the Vynide but that allowed me to get even closer. Vynide was made by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) who also made, wait for it... Rexine. |

Good find Chris! What date? Matthew. |

The firm Cam Gears supplied the steering rack and pinion units for the TD TF MGA and MGB models. I imagine there may be so rehung online about them. I know that John Thornley's son, Peter, worked at Cam Gears as one of his first jobs. Wilmot Breeden made the keys and I believe the bumpers. The top, side curtains, and tonneau cover were supplied by Coventry Hood but I'll double check. Good luck with your web page - looks great Jeff |

That should read There may be some information about them online - darn auto complete on the iPhone |

Newton Sparts Rubery Owen were nut and bolt suppliers. I believe Rubery Owen also manufactured wheels - I believe for the MGA - but they may have made the TD TF wheels as well. They weren't Dunlop were they? |
Jeff Delk |
Matthew. You will be happy to know the ICI ad was from 1954. Most of the ads on the pages were from the TD/TF era except the Smiths one obviously. A few were older. I will add the other Co's. Thanks for the hints. |

Cam Gears: Does anyone have a steering rack out of their car that can search for this symbol cast into the steering body somewhere? |
Chris Couper |
>I believe Rubery Owen also manufactured wheels - I believe for the MGA They certainly made wheels for the B (RO-style). Not sure how far back they go though.... |

Oh and the u-joints are Hardy~Spicer brand |

Not sure if this is applicable to this thread but I figured I would share. The firm that made the badges for the radiator shell, spare wheel, and the for the dash is J. FRAY, LTD B'HAM This is on a TF. Not sure if they made them for the TD. Frank |

Excellent finds. Keep them coming. Nick Herwegh from the Netherlands sent me some real interesting ones that I will post in a few days. Also a great addition to the dealer documentation page too. |

I have an item, the original flex oil line, braided with SS cover. It has an name and number on a white band around the line. At one time I had the info on it, but it's gone. I would have to take the line off to see it. |
