That stuff sure does add up, doesn't it? Best not to think about it on sale day. It's a well loved car, someone is going to get a jewel. Why can't you take your oxygen with you? Build in a tank under the seat or something for long trips. You should find a special sale for the Doepkes. Those might bring more than the big car! Might be the only way I could have a TD. I'm still haunted by a red TD with a Volvo motor that went thru ebay about a year ago. I wonder if it ever sold. It was only about 50 miles from me. When an orphan comes along that really gets under your skin, you end up dreaming what you would have done with it. Drive the damn thing some more, don't give it up yet!! |

In today's market, the car may be more saleable if you advertised it for $14,000, the approx amount less the total of the extras and uninstalled items, and then sell the these items separately and individually. They could be offered to the buyer, or sold on ebay. You could come closer to re- capturing your investment this way. FWIW Dallas |

Dear Greg, In my short time on this board you have become one of MY favorite contributors and here I am blubbering and you're still here. JOhn |

Dear Greg: I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles - I guess nothing we can say really can help other than just to wish you the best. I hope things go well for you. If you wish to sell them separately, I'd certainly be interested in your mesh grille and your front cycle fenders. If you have pictures, would you send them to me? With my best wishes, Dave Jorgensen |

Lots of pics available out at http://community.webshots.com/user/52mgtd My Detroit Free Press add, http://www.freep.com lists the car for $12000 including everything listed above plus many little bits not listed but show up in pics. freep add also has a link to the pics. I will also throw in some witworth tools, carb tools, and manuals, etc. from 40+ yrs with Brit cars, if I approve of the buyer. My hope would be to find a younger chap just getting into Brit cars (by younger I mean below 69, my age). I reserve the right to NOT sell to anyone I don't want to sell to (ACLU git lost baby). I had a chap show up in an mgtf that had been fitted with a small block chevy to look at my 1932 J2 back in 1966 and I wouldn't even let him see the car, I don't care how far he drove. My oxymeter for %SpO2 reads 92 and I climb into thedriver's seat but first bring in my legs and portable tank and my reading drops to 79. Not a good thing. I don't really want to sell it but if I can't work on it or drive it then I would like to find someone who would finish the job and enjoy it. Greg & Grimm |

I'll be active on the board until my 'tire goes dead flat' as MGTD's are/were always my favorite altho I did stray from home into Healey 100M, '59 Healey 4seater, Alfa Juilietta Syder Velochie, (flunked Latin twice in HS)59MGA, 60MGA TC, 71 MGBGT (second favorite)and various other Brit stuff (in cluding the BSA 650). Greg & Griimm gotta go do my nebuliser, be back later folk's |

I had a chap call today and read me the riot act that I had made a "bad investment" putting $16000 into a car that is only worth $12000. I told him it was not an investment but a labor of love and I have enjoyed every moment of it. If he shows op to purchase I might not like that and he might not get "it". Greg & Grimm |

Greg & Grimm from Paul & Maui- Best wishes on the road yet to be travelled. Unfortunately I do not meet the requirements; too many projects already and AARP has me on their mailing list. Have fun with the tyre kickers and hope it goes to a good home. Keep up your contributions, as no matter how old we may be, or how many years we have been playing with the beasties, there is always something we did not know, or bear with me, we have forgotten. I has done revised the list. I refuse to part-it-out! Maybe I will just mothball it. Can you store cars in one of those "PODS" that they advertise on TV. I need some suggestions on mothballing a vehicle so as not to cause any long term damage. G.J., I have read with much interest the threads that you've started and responded to, during the last three years that I've owned my TF and found this website. You've obviously learned and shared a great deal with all of us, and we are saddened that you find that the time has come to part with one of your loves. We sincerely hope that you will find a person "worthy" of your car, who'll take care of it and appreciate it as much as you did. And ...... Please! ..... keep jumping into the fray with the rest of us here, because there are an awful lot of us newbies out there who need your experience, guidance, and wit. May the Big Guy upstairs keep you in the palm of his hand. Gene |

The problem isn't where to put my Helio's Travel Tank, the problem is my lungs. If I'm standing in the garage next to the TD and I walk 55 steps and back my oxygen reading drops from 92 to 73 and I can't breathe and I start getting chect pains as my lungs are trying to make my heart overwork. My heart passed all the tests in the hospital but my lungs funged everything. And I never smoked a cigarette in my life! Putting the hood down and attaching the Tonneau cover drops my oxygen reading from 92 to 75/76. Just lighty polishing the bonnet drops it about 10 points. So right now me and Grimm we just sit there looking at it and dreaming of days gone by. Maybe this is my punishment for when back in '56,'57 I would give the clerk a $20 and He would tell the boss I had called in sick when paydays fell on Friday. I would then drive my TD to Chicago for party time and on Monday I would leave Chicago at 2:00AM and drive straight thru to work at GM Tech Ctr.arriving at 7:30AM, and this was before I96 was complete, I had to use old US12. Not to joke about your health, but maybe you just need a little nitrous oxide injection? Maybe not, it might blow a gasket. Just kidding, don't think I'm trying to diminish the seriousness of your problem. How about one of those cocoons (sp?), a clear plastic enclosure with a fan? Hang in there, someone will come by and realize what a jewel you have, and be willing to pay what it's worth. Maybe even negotiate visiting privileges. |

Not ONE person what "knows about MGTD's" has come/called about the car. The types that have come around look like they have seen a Ghost when I explain all the Idiosyncrocies (I know it's spelled wrong). OH, you mean I can't just jump in and head for the freeway and cruise at 75/80mph. You mean "I have to check trans fluid level, braked fluid level ( way down there under the floor), I have to watch if carbs are pumping thru overflow, no gas gauge, no bucket seats, etc") I'm sure you good people on this board know what I'm talking about. Some even say if it ain't a Trailer Queen I don't want it, sorry, bye. Greg & Grimm |

I think you are going to have to be patient. It is like an unusual and well loved home... there is someone out there who is looking for just such a car. Someone who remembers his dad's, or grandfather's, and would like to recapture that past. Or perhaps someone who enjoys the many rewards of tinkering with an original icon of the fifties. You've been looking for a new home for the car for only a few short months. It will happen. And when it does, you will know you've picked the right person. warmly, dave |
Dave Braun |
Dave, Thanks for your comments they are appreciated. I do have a lot of patience as I build square rigger ship models from scratch during winter months, it's just that my ships are sail able but TD11547 is drivable and it breaks my heart to see it just setting there waiting to "get going". Greg, I'm with Dave Braun all the way here! Those of us that enjoyed your post and seen the pictures of you and Grimm's travels over the years on this BBS know just how special that TD is to you. Try to be patient and wait for the right person, you will know who it is when they show up! Years ago a good friend of mine aquired an old 39 business coupe from a musem (had less than 12k on the clock and everything was orginal). He had the car sold and the new owner flew in from the left coast to pick it up. Started talking about his plans of "chopping the top, shaving the door handles, installing the new motor, ect. My friend told him car was no longer for sale! A couple of months ago the guy he did sell it too (for less $) showed up in his driveway just in time to take my buddy for the "50k miles" ride. Same paint, same interior, same engine, ect. My friend said he was so glad he waited for the right person to sell "Mr Natural" to. TD11547 deserves the same... don't let her go to anybody Grimm wants to take a chunk out of their leg! I wish I had the $ to take over the responcabilities of keeping her on the road and out of the trailer, best she takes a little "time-off" and waits for the right caretaker! Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

I had one chap that said He had a TC about 35yrs ago. When I told Him that I had installed a new master cylinder and wheel cylinders and converted to Silicone brake fluid, He said " Oh no you can't do that. One thing I remember is that you can't mix American brake fluid with English brake fluid, it will eat up the seals". Well that was the end of that conversation. I'm beginning to adjust to a slower pace in life's trail. I found a way to put 'stone guards' on my Doepke MGTD models. Greg & Grimm |
