MG TD TF 1500 - MGTF 135

Having test driven the mgtf 135 and the Mazda MX5 Phoenix, all I can say is "No comparison!" The MGTF left the MX5 standing. What a rush!!!!! The MGTF held the road like a dream. It was easy to drive, nippy and not to mention very pleasing to the eye. I loved it so much, I have just signed on the dotted line. Money well spent in my opinion. Can't wait to get it out on the open road!! Thanks MG.
Amanda

Amanda,

You heartless wench, teasing us poor MG deprived yanks with tales of the latest offerings from your sports car rich island. Send us your new sports cars and we'll quit sending you bad wine.

Love always, S.G.
Sour Grapes

Now matter how lovely the comment by Amanda, one can't stop wondering at the damage made by people at Rover who do not happen to know the least on the history of our cars.

Poor Amanda should not be put in the situation of not knowing the difference between a TF and a TF!

Denis,
I'll drink to that! (In all fairness ..if my painter doesn't get off his butt and get my TF painted soon I will drink to most anything...5 months now)...anyway , I degress ....you must have missed my thread from when it was first announced that the folks at Rover decided to "re-use" the TF name. Go back through the archives if you wish....but the jest of my proprosal ...sumitted for your prousal is if there is to be "another TF" it should be refered to as the "mg tf" and not be confused with "THE MG TF". This will ensure we "TF" lovers don't waste time reading about the "tf"! By the way ...great idea on the "spark advance" ....going to do this one..thanks!

I wonder if she is blonde or had ablonde moment? ;-)
Cecil Kimber

My wife would tell you that the only dumb blondes are those with dark roots; now get back dear, put the gun down.

The new TF is cluttering up our roads, saw at least 6 today. Let us hope that the new TF is better designed abd better built than the original TF was seems to have been designed on a beer map over two pints of mild & bitter and cobbled up late one Friday afternoon. The build quality was not good - ever taken an original aprts - they used odd screws etc. In fact when they ran out of bolts & similar they used to send the apprewntice down to Ballard & Sons (sllers of David Brown tarcors and farm machinery) to get what bolts & nuts were available.
Bob Marshall

When disassembling my TD I often wondered if there was only one length of machine screw available at the factory. It could be used to tie the two sides of the car together, but usually just fastened two pieces of sheet metal. Takes a long time to get a nut off using an open spanner in a space only allowing one flat of turn.

<abd better built than the original TF>

50 years from now........

Will there still be more MGTF's on the road than mgtf's?

Bill Steffen

Bob, the “Borrowing “ of nuts, bolts and screws was not confined to just M.G.’s you know! Most car manufacture’s used to practice this “art”
Cecil Kimber

Bill,

There will definitely be more MGTF's if no mgtf's are sold in the U.S. Where would they get rust free mgtf's to re-import?
George B.

To David Sheward:

Yes, I saw that proposal of yours, but then I forgot which one was the tf and which the TF!

As for my advance, it's there just for fun: if everything is OK, I never use it. Fortunately, almost never everything is OK so I have plenty of opportunity to play! Different fuels and temperature play a lot of tricks!

I never drank Ohio wine, but use to live in nothern CA and drank a lot of that one. Getting better and improving with the skills of winemakers. Maybe that applies to Ohio also - I crossed that area a few times.

Have a glass on me.

Amanda,

The "NEW" TF being based on the MGF is catered for likewise in the MGF General/Technical BBS's. Check it out - there are plenty of us there willing to hear your views and offer advice about the "NEW" TF. ;-) Marque of friendship and all that.
Paul Lathwell

How about "FTF" for the new one?

Keith.
Keith Doherty

A bit late to do anything about the name, right or wrong.
Paul Lathwell

Coincidentally we have just acquired a 'new TF' (135) to compliment our 'real TF' and so far that's how we differentiate between them.

Alternatively I suppose we could refer to the red TF or the silver TF!

All suggestions greatfully received

I don't know,,,, It seems like the new "tf" (i can't make the font any smaller) looks an aful lot like the toyota spider
Steve

I sympathise with jt. We have also bought a tf to sit alongside the TF in the garage - green and red in our case. Real confusing when her indoors says how about a spin in the TF? But I tell you what, the new one is a lot cheaper to run than the old one - new transmission tunnel, speedo and carbs this month alone on the old one, and a list of bits wanted as long as your arm ...... AB (rapidly heading for imminent poverty)
Adrian Bennett

Steve - I would say the reason for the new TF looking like like the Toyota is that the new Toyota MR2 is a line for line copy of the MGF, the TF's predecessor. Only the MR2 has room for 2 people only. I don't even think there's storage for the proverbial telescoping tooth brush!

It's funny to see US comparison tests saying how the MR2 was built to take on the Miata, etc., but in their blinkered way, the "source of inspiration" is not brought up.
