MG TD TF 1500 - MGTF hood/bow attachment
Hi I have a 1954 mgtf that Im trying to fit a new canvas top and side curtains. I would keen to get some pics of position of where the frame is fixed at the rear of apex of the rear body elbow. Also how the canvas hood is fixed to the tack strips at rear of car and hood straps. All my wood work has been replaced and old trim has several screw holes leaving me to guess. Cheers Les Hurrell |

Less, Have a look at 'The Original MGTF midget' web site and see under Exterior Photos,No. 248 and under Interior Photos,No.256 The TF hood material is held down to the rear wood tack batons(3) via Phillips Head screws supported by flanged washers. The slight flange of the washer base helps to prevent tearing of the hood material. The cast pivot bracket position of the metal hood frame can vary slightly between cars. Matt. Magilton from memory has a good photo of the screws used and relative position in his very original TF1500. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

A lot of us have fitted snap fittings across the back. Not original but very practical - gives easy access to the back of the car and makes it possible to remove the hood cover completely if you need to. Dave H |

Rob meant to mention that when you visit the website, click on Gallery, then click on Unrestored TF 9052 for the two photos he listed. Also, Unrestored TF 9097 (my car) will show this photo: Matthew. |

Here is the mounting holes on my 53, 3 bow TD.
2 pairs of holes. I use the lowest ones. The heigth of the frame above the door is 20"1/4. Moss instructions say 20"1/2. So my frame is a bit low. The top hole position from the Pic of T.A. 15h23 is much lower. I'm wondering if there is not a misunderstanding between,2 bow, 3 bow, TD and TF in this post. There might be a wood or screw position difference also between cars. Moss instruction is erroneous ? Any one has done such measurements. Laurent. |
