MG TD TF 1500 - MGTF6985 now legal but not quite ready for driving

Hi all.

AT LAST!
30yrs after last being on the road in the USA its legal again!!!!

After all the frustrations and techincal hurdles thrown at me by the DVLA,finally its legal to drive on the road, although its not quite road ready,"roadworthy" yet!

My 1954 mgtf1500 California black plate import has been allocated the UK reg no; 524 YUR by the DVLA,and is now taxed, insured,MOT exempt and the V5c should arrive in a couple of weeks.

It wont take much over the weekend to make it roadworthy,"ish",so at least I can drive it a few 100 yds up and down to test things out before venturing onto the main roads.

Still waiting on the interior trim and seat kits and grille slats etc,to arrive!!
Grille surround and bonnet hinge strip at the chromers so should be ready early March.

After a good haggle with the vendors I bought a few bargain needed parts at a local show this weekend!

While there I saw a very nice, and very original,1954 MGTF1250,HDC16 and XPAG so a genuine UK car,in almost exactly the same spec as mine and only a few 100 less on the chassis number, could almost be its UK twin!!
Owner lives in Yeovil!

Radiator is now fitted and all pipes are plumbed in,and as the s/s exhaust is now fitted properly,I can fire it up and run up to temp, and drive it in and out of garage.

Sounds great. Good luck.

Congratulations!

Nearly there and looking good. Don't know about you, but mine's been tucked-up in the garage this weekend, against the salty roads ahead of tonight's snow (which arrrived spot on cue).

BTW, are you going to Stoneleigh next Sunday? http://www.mg-show.co.uk/

A neighbour of mine has asked me to share the drive up there with him.

Regards,

Havent decided yet Tom!!
Not a lot I need really,so unless Brown and gammons are going, and I can get my ordered parts there instead of via post,o doubt I will go!

Very pleased for you and the successes you'r having. Fun stuff this. Having experienced some of the same, I can share in your enjoyment of the progress you are making. Keep up the posts, and I look forward to further developments.

Pilkie Very strange, I have at different times owned two different TF1500's. neither of which had the water outlet for the heater on the side that yours is. Also there is apparently an electrical fitting where the temp gauge fitting should be. What gives? Are these "home market" changes as opposed to export units?

Also there is a hex fitting on top of the water outlet to the radiator hose. Never saw that before either.

Can somebody explain these things?

Bob, you're forgetting that it's not an XPEG engine. Bud

Bob.
You havent seen the other post about it!
As the original 1500 engine was missing, its near impossible to find a complete ready to drop in and start up original at a decent price!
Its a 1974 MG midget1500tc,"Triumph" engine.
Fits very well and looks the part, until you look closer!

Congratulations.

I have been working on TF5110 for the past 11 months. It finallystarted today. Yipee.

The car was dismantled in 1965 for paint and sat in a barn until I rescued it last year. Should be back on the road this summer.
