MG TD TF 1500 - more leg room
after reading some posts from people with long legs... i recently removed my seat hinges and pedal extentions. i also flipped the offset on the brake pedal up to give me more clearance at the gas pedal. it sure makes the driving a lot more enjoyable. Legs fit under the dash and i can push on the gas pedal without having to squeeze past the brake. for those of you who posted on those threads i read.... thanks! |

I also removed the pedal extensions and moved the brake pedal on the arm to have more clearance with the gas pedal. I am not clear what you mean when you say you removed the seat hinges. Did you remove the hinges that fasten to the floor or the ones that fix the seat back? |

I am not sure how removing the seat hinges would help. Mine are pushed up against the panel completely and the seat back is as far back as it could go. There is maybe 1/4 inch of space between the bottom of the seat back and the panel. |

i removed the ones that hold the seat back. the back will become a little more upright but every little bit helps with longer legs. probably more it allows the bottom to move back which is a little nicer for getting your feet in and out. |

Any secrets on how to get more room between my belly and the steering wheel? I know. I know. I know. Seriously, I am going to remove the pedal extensions as I am having knee problems. Bill TD24570 |

"Any secrets on how to get more room between my belly and the steering wheel? I know. I know. I know. Seriously, I am going to remove the pedal extensions as I am having knee problems." Have you raised the angle of the steering wheel to its maximum? There's a bracket under the dash that holds the steering column and allows for adjustment. Once that's done adjust the extension of the steering wheel forward or aft to best accommodate you. I also had knee problems and ended up going with a smaller diameter motolita steering wheel. Removing the pedal extensions is a great first step. BobbyG |

Bill, Take out the seat and sit on the floor? (I'll let you know how it works ...after that last winter it's either that or go shopping for a smaller wheel for me!) Don't get me started on leg room......again! |

Bobby / David, a smaller wheel is definitely on the want list. Steering wheel raised and forward to the max. Bill TD24570 |

Bill, What are your knees hitting???? The dash? or the cover under it??? |
STEVE WINCZE |
Steve, I'm needing knee surgery and having them scrunched up is giving me some discomfort. This is magnified if I have the car in a parade when I'm using the clutch and brake pedals a lot. Also having my knees bent when on the clutch and brake pedals, my legs are into the bottom of the wheel. I think taking the pedal extenders should help that. thanks, Bill TD24570 |

I have done all of these modifications as well. Removing the rear seat hinges allows the front seats to go back a bit farther, reducing thigh interference quite a bit. It does result in a more upright seating position as the seat back is full against the bottom rear bulkhead. On my seats, the location of the t-nuts to hold the hinges in place left my seat bottoms a good two inches forward of the rear bulkhead. The lack of seat hinges also hides the fact that I dropped my butt about an inch by reducing the amount of foam in that area... yeah it does get a bit sore on long trips, so I just get up and walk now and then! warmly, dave |
