MG TD TF 1500 - More MkII's for Tom

Tom

see page 6 of this auction, where there are two MkII's (or so they say, I am more sceptical about the first one!). The second one has the original passenger grab handle and bonnet bulge, but they are somewhat coy about the first one). Both have a single carb.

Did you mean single fuel pump?
David Sheward

Indeed I do!

Single fuel pump; wrist slapped!

Ian - quite right on all counts. The first one, TD 29133, is definitely NOT a Mark II - they have fellen into the old TD2 trap, I fear. TD/C 27862, although it may have have 1-1/4" SU's and a single fuel pump now, does match a Mark II serial number, and I bet it's OK.

I love that these cars are coming out of thw woodwork. Keep 'em coming, with thanks!

Tom, is their a listing available for MK II's, as I saw a TD recently that had Andrex shocks, but nothing else appeared to match? Although it had holes unplugged on the right side of the firewall near the top. Is their a firewall diagram for MK II's available?

Cheers, Barry
C B Ryley

Barry - the only real difference would be the added holes for the second fuel pump bracket, which I believe the standard firewall drawings already show. (I have been reliably informed that there are a half-dozen or so errors on the usual drawings.)

All the Mark II added features could be bought over-the-counter from your FLAMGD (friendly local authorized MG dealer), and are listed in the factory parts book.

If you can send me the # of the car you saw, I can let you know if it is factory. It is unusual to find a TD with the Andrex shocks added - I've seen it, but not often.

Happy to answer any Mark II questions.

Keep em' honest Tom!
Wish I would have know of someone doing this for TF1500's 20 years ago ...could have saved me a lot of grief & airfare!
Almost wish they would only sell some of the "badges" on an "exchange" basis!
Badges ...there are too many stinking badges!

I wrote also, and also no reply!

I just rang up the auctionneers, as they say, and neither of these TDs - one a Mark II the other not, sold. The estimates - 16-18,000 pounds for the Mark II and 17-18,500 for the TD - seem awfully high, but who knows what's doing across the pond.

Their web site shows what sold yesterday, but doesn't mention the sales price.

The estimates for the TDs are in the right ball park taking recent adverts and EBay as the measure, depending as ever on just how far from 'correct' they are. But the estimate is normally at least 10% over the reserve price, so they appear to have failed to get a bid over £15,500, which is low.

There are a number of TF in auctions coming up, and the reserve is generally over £20K.

I fear that this breed of MG is not going to create any millionaires just yet.
