MG TD TF 1500 - More TD Carb Questions
I went away on vacation and my TD did not fix it self while I was gone. With lot of help here, it became obvious I wasonly running on 2 cyc. because the front carb was not working. I pulled the float cover last night and the chamber is dry as a bone. It appears as if my problem resides in the cover itself, perhaps some dirt or grime in the "ball valve" ( I am not sure that is the proper term). I am trying to clean it out with carb cleaner. Is there something else I should be doing? Question 2, how do I remove the float to clean sediment out of the bowl? Last question, should I refuel the float chamber prior to re-installing the cover? Thanks again for helping a novice. Conrad |

Hi Conrad, the whole process is really quite simple. First remove fuel line from the top of the float bowl, remove the top of the float bowl, pullout the pin that holds the float lever, remove the needle valve, unscrew the brass seat( which held the needle valve ) and all should be revealed. There may or may not be a gauze filter where the fuel line screws into the float bowl top. The float bowl just lifts out with the help of 2 match sticks or something similar. There is no need to refill the float chamber prior to starting up. The fuel pump will sort that out for you. Good luck Paul |
