MG TD TF 1500 - Moss + Brake lines ??

So I started out to replace the brake system.
Ordered the brake pip set for my 53 TD ( GLUG ).
When I took off the line from the front 3-way to the 4 way next to the master cyl., I put a tape to it and came up with 4'11" ( 59" )
I then measured the longest one in the box.
It came up to 4'6" ( 54" )
5" difference is a bit much.
This is # 23a on their drawing.
Called MOSS and was told that pipe is the longest and should come out to 46.5 ".
I know sometimes you get short changed by MOSS, but this is not even close.
Does anyone really know how long it is?
Maybe I can get one made up if I can not figure out which bends to eliminate from this line to make it reach.

thx

I meant # 20a in the MOSS catalog page.

Nope.. it is # 23a
Front 3-way to 4-way next to master.

This OMD thing I have is getting worst..
better known as CRS.it.

I think there was originally a big loop/bend that just went up and down in the oil filter area. No clue why it was there, and likely doesn't need to be. Try running the new line and see if it reaches. My new set was perfect, but that was a few years ago. George

Mr. Grogan:

I have recently (within the past year) replaced all of the brake lines on my '52 TD (16504) with the brake line package from Moss Motors. I found that all of them fit fine. I think it is somewhat of a 'generic' package that has been assembled for more than one type/make of car because I had some really minor difficulty trying to determine exactly which line went where.

The line from the 4-way union (located just behind the master cylinder) to the front 3-way union located on a lip (i.e. bolted through a small hole) at the left-hand bottom rear of the front cross-member, on my car, measures approx. 44". The line runs almost straight along from the 4-way union to the front 3-way union under the lip on the inside-top of the LH frame side rail. It basically has only 2 turns/curves in it - one where it curves from the LH side rail to run across the rear of the front crossmember and then almost immediately it curves downward and into the front 3-way union. I couldn't get a more precise length measurement because it presently is installed and it is difficult lay a tape-rule along it, since it runs between the LH frame side rail and the pedal box. However, if you would like a more precise measurement - I could use my wife's sewing / measuring tape. This brake line has a yellow plastic sleeve on it with the number "23" in black.

I hope this helps - good luck with your installation.

Gents,

One year ago this spring I did a complete brake job using the Moss brake line kit of ready made pipes. I was 100% pleased by the fit of all lines. I first removed all the old lines being careful to make no additional bends. I then straightened the kit lines and rebent them to match the old lines. Some of the installation was a little like a Chinese puzzle but fit well in the end.

Charlie King, Jim Haskins, George Butz - All good replies and I thank you all.
As the numbers from a Moss rep on the phone and the tape of what I was sent were so far off, it threw me for a loop.
So I managed to get that one installed. Had to miss a couple of bends to make the connection.
If it was indeed as short as the rep told me over the phone, it would never have fit. Not even close.
I did run it behind the pedal box and just enough bend to connect with the 4 way and the 3 way.
On to the next one.

thx
