MG TD TF 1500 - Moss side screen covers
Anyone having experience with the side screen covers supplied by Moss Europe? I received my new set this week (TD 2 bow Tan) What a disappointment!! The colour is not Tan but yellow/oker colour and the transparent windows are so thin, it just looks like a plastic foil. Tried to contact Moss today but no reply yet. I can hardly imagine you always have to purchase a new top cover to have a good colour match. |

wow, those are yellow. Something doesn't seem right there. As for the thickness of the clear panel, I too was a bit dissapointed in what I received from MOSS US. But not having had the original for comparison I accepted it. |

Are we saying, besides the weird color, that the Plexiglas in the side covers is not up to standard? I haven't a clue why Moss would approve of this. Dirk, I hope you can contact them and let them know that this is not acceptable. I need a new set of side covers also and was holding off until I got my tub done before ordering them. Now I will look for another source. Thanks for calling this to our attention. Much appreciated. PJ I wonder if Prestige in the UK makes them? I have one of their mohair tops on the MGB and it's great! |

Try Heritage http://www.heritagetrim.com they are expensive but are one of the best. No connection to them. Regards, Jim |

This wasn't my experience with Moss US. I bought the side curtains in Oct 2008 and the colour match vs. the top and the thickness of the panel was acceptable. Perhaps they've changed suppliers.

Hi Phil, Wish mine looked the same. My soft top is of the same colour as yours, but the side screens are much more yellow. |

Hi PJ & guys, I got my top(hood), tonneau cover and side screen covers from Don Trimming Co., Ltd, in England, about 6 mo.s ago. Their beige mohair. Will be installing them all in the next 2 weeks. Color looks great, and all match, of course. I've just barely opened the boxes so far, so haven't noted the clear material's thickness. The overall quality looked great, and they were favourably recommended by a previous customer here. I'll let you know more in a wk or so. I don't remember the currency rates then, but total cost with shipping/handling was 767 pounds Sterling. IIRC, it was less than I could have spent in the US, total. Off topic -- I drove our TF to the upholstery shop Wed., in 38F temp. <http://www.boatanchors.org/mgtf.htm> for the whole story & pix. Al |

I received a reply from Moss EU, nothing they can do about it, they supply these since years and nobody complaint about it. Theonly option is to return the side screen covers they say. I attached a picture of the covers on the car, the difference is terible. Would covers from Moss US be better? I looked at another source, but it seems that canvas side covers are only supplied by Moss. Does anyone know about another source for these canvas covers? |

Dirk, in the photo it appears that the side curtain cover is the canvas material, also called Duck, which is the original cotton material on these cars. The color is called often called Khaki in the US. Is your top a replacement synthetic material? The colors of the new Stayfast type tops are much different than the cotton Duck material. If this is the case they may have supplied the incorrect choice of material. |
Dallas Congleton |
Gotta agree with Dallas. The side curtains look to be the original type material where as the top/hood looks to be of some other material. side curtains looks the same as I have on the TD. It doesn't show it in this picture but it's the same ochre color as your side curtains.

Hello Dirk, Yes, you are right, this yellow is ugly and does not suit your ivory car. I don't know where you are based in Belgium but near Antwerpen you will find Anglo-Parts and I am sure they have the tan stuff. You might go there and see for yourself. And also on their website you will find it. In UK I know that Moto-Build makes uppolstery and hoods in their own workshop and they have a boot on almost every dutch and belgium british carfare. In the netherlands I know Van Straaten in Woerden (between Rotterdam and Utrecht) very well and they make any uppolstery and any hood for any classical car. Also open on saterdaymornings and worthwile to visit and see for yourself. Good luck, Huib |
