MG TD TF 1500 - Mystery Bracket - one more try..
In a recent thread on 'fuel pump Position 54TF' I also included a picture of a bracket to see if anyone could tell me what is was for and where it went on the TF. I know it came with the car. I 'think' I took it off the car but it could have come with the car unattached (Major CRS event). When I bought the car the PO was restoring an MGA which was right next to the TF. Maybe this part is for the MGA and migrated into the TF parts pile. Anyway, I thought I would give the bracket it's own thread and include a few pictures at different angles for one more try at getting it identified. Some very good minds responded to the previous thread so I tend to agree with George B. that it does not belong to the TF. I will post a couple more pictures after this one.... John |

I have tried this picture a couple of times without any text. Didn't seen to go. Maybe this one will....

You need text with a picture to make it go. Learn something new everyday....

John - Been working on MG's over 55 years now 1933-1955 and never seen that part. Sorry, hope someone else can ID it, Oscar |

Some time ago someone described how to use power point to send an image. I did not copy the note and can't find it in the archives. Could someone explain one more time. Thanks Morris |

John -- I'm not sure but could that be the bracket that held the rubber bump stop on the front suspension? Of course the rubber is long gone but originally the bump stop did not require a spacer. Now the replacements do so they look different. Just wondering. Bob |

John - I agree with Oscar. I have worked on MGTDs, MGAs, and MGBs for 40 years and have never seen that bracket. You may also wish to take some shots with the bracket in different positions - also closer up. That may help. I guess my one question would be, if you are working on your TF and if the group can assure you it doesn't go on the TF, would you be ok with placing it in your spares box as "unknown?" I usually don't throw things away and it may be that it can later be found to have gone on some other car - or it may have been used for some aftermarket accessory. Interesting mystery - but I wouldn't worry too much over it. I'll place my vote with Oscar - does not look to be a TF part. Best regards, Jeff |

Bob J. - don't think it was for the bump stop on the front suspension. I cannot see how it would take the place of the one that is there. This really bugs me. The bracket was attached to the stabilizer link when I got to it (the link) to clean it up and replace the bushings. I assumed it was the bracket for this link. It has been a long long time since I disassembled the car and I didn't take many pictures during disassemble since I did not have a digital camera at the time. When I ordered the bushings I noticed the bracket in the catalog didn't look like mine so I ordered it. This is the one that bolts on the two lower bolts of the water pump. Anyway, enough with this bracket. As Jeff suggested it is now in my pile of used parts. Thanks to all for your comments.... John |

You just solved your own mystery John. When I was looking at this earlier I was thinking what this might resemble on he TF. The link came to mind. I think your PO might have broken or lost the original and came up with what you have for a replacement. LaVerne |
