MG TD TF 1500 - Mystery holes in TF1500 tool box

Hello all, when replacing the felt in the tool-box of my 1955 mgtf1500 I've uncovered two sets of four holes in the rear of the box. They were just covered by the felt. There are also two grommeted holes against the battery.

Any idea what these mystery holes are for?

TD's also have these eight holes on the rear wall of the tool box. They could predate the scuttle hoop bar. Are they for mounting radio speakers?
