MG TD TF 1500 - Need Help Finding Quality Screw-In Type Coil

I am looking for a quality (meaning known brand - hopefully made somewhere other than China) ignition coil with screw-in type HT lead connection.

I have looked and have seen various types of coils but none seem to made by a known manufacturer - such as Echlin, Bosch, old Lucas, or other.

Does anyone have a known source for a good quality 12V ignition coil that has a Screw-In type HT lead connection?

I had hoped to find a high output coil with a screw-in type connection - but I can't even find a decent standard coil.

The only coils I see are of unknown manufacture - and no specifications are given about resistance or voltage generated.

Something to think about.
I made an adapter.

Paul Beck Vintage Supplies in the UK sells a Lucas branded one.

Jim - interesting adapter - how did you fabricate that?

Mog - so who is making that "Lucas" branded coil and I wonder what the specifications are - ohms of resistance and voltage output?

Lew - that coil is a push in type unfortunately - also - I wonder what the specs on it are - see above.

Thanks for the responses

Sorry, I posted the wrong one. It should have been this one (which unfortunately is not Lucas branded)

DLD-
If you cannot find one with an actual screw-in High Tension lead, could you not take a spare (screw in) plastic nut and cut off the threaded portion, and run it down the spark plug wire until it rested on the top of the coil--with the push in lead inserted into the coils HT output? That would leave the appearance of a screwed down nut and you would just have to figure a way to make it stay put on the spark plug wire, with the appearance of everything in place.

You could try these guys:

The coil on their website looks to be a push-in, but they say to ask about specific applications...

Attached find a drawing.
Just tow parts.
A brass, flanged insert.
This plugs into the coil (BTW that was a Lucas Sport).
A Threaded plastic sleeve with a step. The sleeve slips over the insert. It is held in place by the screw in HT lead.

See second photo.

Here are the parts.
If I were doing it over, and I might, I would make the brass insert so it locks into the coil.

Doug Pelton told me recently that the Lucas coils were on world wide backorder now. I have used a Moss repro coil with great results for several years. George

I have had good results with the Moss repo coil too for a TD.

Has the coil to distributor cable always had a screw-in connector at both ends? The screw cap at the coil end has a longer screw section than the distributor cap end. I see from the Abingdon Spares catalog, 037-62, that the Lucas Sports Coil shows a screw cap. that image is at least 25 years old.
Moss' catalog speaks of two coils,p 45 #21 (143-210)as "Coil, screw-type H.T. connection (replica of original)& 21a (143-201) as Sports Coil, Intermotor brand (push-in HT connection). All of the Lucas Sports Coil images that I can Google up show it as having a push-in format. I wonder when they changed it.

DLD, unless you're after a Sports Coil it would seem that Moss' 143-210 is what you want.

Bud, The TF that I just finished working on has a Lucas Sports Coil that has push-on HT lead and no threads. We put in on in the late 80s, so they have been that way for a long time. George

Question, Is there anything wrong with the period coil with the threads that the suppliers are selling? PJ

Thanks for the informative replies. What I was after was a coil of known quality that had a higher output than the standard coil (one that had a screw in type HT connection). I don't think one is available. I think Jim's adapter is very ingenious. Jim - you may be able to produce and sell those!

I may just go with a higher output coil with the push in HT lead. I would use the original-type repro Moss coil if I did not run a pertronix unit in the distributor. I still don't know who makes the Moss coil and what the specifications are (output and resistance).

My concern about the "Lucas" branded coils is that we have no idea who is making them and what the specifications are. I have this same concern for some of the unbranded coils.

I will keep looking and will certainly post info here if I find anything beyond what we have discussed above.

Best regards and thanks again!
