MG TD TF 1500 - Need help with interior
I am in the process of replacing the interior in a 54 mgtf.Could someone tell which should be installed first, the panels or the carpent? Should the carpet piece under the seat overlap the front piece or should it be the reverse. The old carpet and interior was so bad you could not tell how it originally fit. Thanks Bud |

Hi Bud, I'm at the same point now with our 54 TF. (actually a local shop is doing the upholstery as the seats are being recovered (not a kit).) Colin Stafford sent me some pix of the carpet areas from his true original TF. If he doesn't jump in here I'd be happy to send them to your email, there are 4-5 pix. The forward section does overlap the one under the seat. On the sequence query, I suspect that the panels would go in first, as the carpet is removable at any time, and doesn't want to be under the bottom of the panels. send me a direct email for the pix Al |

Bud I'd recomend you install the panels first. Chances are you're going to be dropping panel nails along the way and they will be easier to retrieve. Also you will be able to fit the carpet edges to the panels. In addition you might be using some contact cement for the fender covers and it's less likely you will spill or get over spray on your new carpet. Front piece of carpet should overlap the piece under the seat. |

Here is a pic of my factory carpet. The cutouts in the top piece are for the seat runners and the top piece goes over the bottom piece. Yes, upholstery first. Cheers, Matthew. |

I sent a request for help regarding upholstery and panels. Apprecaiate the response. I have another question. In the carpet piece that goes over the trans tunnel, the piece next to the firewall has an opeing for checking fluid. Should that cutout have any kind of border around it. It looks sorta ragged but that may be the way it was originally. Thanks for any help Bud |

The steel cover with brass T-nut should cover that, right? |

No border for the inspection hole Bud, just cut carpet. The only border anywhere in a TF carpet is just behind the handbrake and two tiny pieces by the rear wheel arches near the sidecreen box. The inspection hole is covered by a curved oval metal plate covered in carpet secured with a low profile brass wingnut. Cheers, Matthew. |

AW We should get together on the interior... I am about to pick back up with my baby ('52 TD) after a two year hiatus (health problems) I am also in NC... It's a big place I know. I'm in the greater Charlotte area... How about you? |
