MG TD TF 1500 - Need oil pump for TD
Fellow enthusiats, I'm in the need for a good used TD oil pump. I can get gears. The pump I have is worn out on the bores of the pump body, due to debris in the engine and no oil changes. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks, Tucker. J. Madawick |

Tucker - What year is the TD? I have an oil pump for the early TD for sale, if that is what you need. Dave |

I would not throw away the old pump as I seem to remember reading that it is possible to buy oversize gears. I will see if I can determine where or who from. |

Tucker, My word, I haven't heard from you in years. Anyway, it the pump the early one with separate filter or the later one with the horizontal oil filter canister. I may have a usable later one, but the bypass valve ball seat may need to be recut. Email me off list for details. Cheers, Lew Palmer |

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I'll wait for Roger Wilson's response on trying to locate the oversize gears. The machining of the housing won't be a problem. This pump's gear bores have some wear due to lack of oil changes, but I think I can use it it by tightening up the clearances and using new gears and the block mounted shaft, which is worn. It is a late style pump with horzontal oil filter mount. Thanks to all, be in touch. Tucker |

In the February 2003 edition of the MGCC T Register Bulletin, Barrie Jones (TD/TF technical secretary) describes how he had the oil pump in his TF reconditioned by a local machining shop. The work included boring out the gear cavities by .020", plus making and fitting oversize gears. He also offers to have a batch of oversize gears made if there is enough demand. I would suggest you contact him directly at <barriej@eurobell.co.uk> to see if he had a batch made, and if he has any remaining. I might have been interested myself, as the hot oil pressure in my TD drops to below 15psi when idling (58-60psi when running). However, I have decided to fit an MGB engine, although I will keep the XPAG for posterity. Best of luck. |
