MG TD TF 1500 - New Listing of TF 1500....WOW!

eBay listing #150125557056. You've GOT TO look at this one. This guy must have seen the results of RM/Ponder Auction. Decent car with the exception of:
1)Single aero screen. Does listing include a pair of googles for passenger?
2)No studs for either a 1/2 or full tonneau.
3)Rear of top installed down over the outside of tub.
4)Ugly wooden shift knob.
5)An even uglier steering wheel.
6)Wrong hose clamps.
7)Air horns should be hidden below the radiator behind the front splash pan, if at all.
8)Oil filler cap should be at the front end of cover.
9)Emergency brake boot should have been longer to cover the cables & workings.
10)Top, when lowered, should fold down into the rear well with top material within the tub. Looks like an old VW convertible.
11)What instrument is that inside the left glove box?
12)Chromed seat tonneau bars and top bows.
13)Wrong color instrument cluster panel.

Hmmmm, let's see...did I forget anything? Oh, yeah! The contact person's name is GENE. I 'ponder' what might be his last name?
Maybe the next listing will be for the Brooklyn Bridge.
A VERY longggggg way to go from $0.01 to $60,000.

SEAMUS,

You missed the later MG midget generator. And a lot of after market rocker covers have the oil fill (with breather) at the rear. Can't put them on the other way as they fit around the head bolts (as visible in the third engine picture). But you are right... $60,000 is about four times too much.

14) gas tank end panels left chrome and not painted
15) same for tank straps
16) no red dots on parking lamps
17) relay box chromed and upside down
18) looks like he bought the chromed brake drums
19) under side of bonnet looks like it was painted with rock chip coating
20) radiator lacing not installed correctly
21) speakers cut into side screen box which leads me to believe they aren't with the car
22) large window in hood looks like it came from a kit car
23)at $ 45000.00 I'd expect the engine bay to be imaculate
24) rear license plate bracket bent out from car
25) screws holding on the door panels

But who's counting

Something just seems wrong with the Hood where it is shown folded down,,, do you think it will fit further into the boot so a tonneau can be fitted? I also didn't realize that the gas filler cap might not be accessable if the rack has luggage on it!!

Funny! The Buy it Now price went from $60,000 last night to $45,000 today and still only one bid at $0.01. I think I'll put in my 2 cents worth! He must have read this thread. Keep it going and maybe the Buy it Now price will get down to around $15,000 where it probably should be.

In fairness to the seller, I like the cinnamon color interior, The old school head light and fog light guards, the luggage rack, and the paint finish although not the color choice.

Remind me not to sell my MG on E=bay, you folks are brutal

You can sell your MG on ebay, Bruce. Just value it honestly, and don't say it is perfect if you've taken a few liberties (as most of us have) in a few areas.

I think the group here is pretty critical (in the classical sense) but also appreciate a good value. There are some pretty nice cars in this group, but I'll wager not one of them is a 100 pt car. I'm proud to say that this group has all 'drivers'.

Bruce,
I think were just having a little fun trying to spot the differences from original. Kind of like "Find the difference's" cartoons. Unlike the car dealer for this listing I think we all have a sense that for $45000.00 the car should be flawless. I tend to believe in full disclosure. So if I were to sell my 69 B I'd let the potential buyers know that the seats and interior kit were for a 68 ( I like the contrasting piping), the engine and over drive tranny were from a 72. I wouldn'nt conviently not mention that the two tone black and cream was originaly red or fail to mention the instruments in the glove box. I'm not a
"prestigous restoration shop" but I think I came a lot closer to getting my TF right than they did.If you or I posted a "buy it now" at that price for one of our MG's I think we'd get picked over to. Lets face it. We all bought an MG that was probably in much worse shape. But then we didn't pay $ 45000.00 for it. Well at least not until the restoration. I do believe we have a couple of posters on this board that claim to be bone stock original.

Further improvements may include:

. Dechrome petrol tank straps, paint panel colour(which one!)
. Re-set tub to align the scuttle bottom edge with the lower edge of the bonnet tops.
. Repaint Hood Frame in correct salmon/beige colour.
. Replace current Hood under webbing with cotton(Biscuit dyed)woven web.
. Affix interior piping to inner quarter panels areas.
. Carpet to be Black, cover piece over the Handbrake pivot point is missing.
. Dashboard colour to be Biscuit ?
. Realign radiator cap and MG badge on radiator shell.
. Battery rubber corner buffers are missing-renew.
. Relay Box to be dechromed, then Cadmium plated.
. Re alumnise hot spray exhaust manifold.
. Replace the Guarantee and Patent Plates Phillips Head affixings with domed, slot head, brass bolts.
. Colour match Toolbox lid with Bulkhead colour.
. Change motor colour.
. Straighten side engine panel.
. Re cadmium plate Bonnet latches.
. Dechrome Volkes Air Cleaners, paint black.
. Dechome Radiator/Thermostat housing,paint engine colour.
. Replace fasher 'can' to correct Lucas and affix correctly to the side of Tool Box.
. Replace ignition coil with correct Lucas.
. Change connectors to Spark Plugs to originals.
. Replace the piping between the side engine panel and radiator shell.

Of course these few items and the above points made by others are purely all in the eyes of the beholder.
They only really represent the tip of the 'MG restoration iceberg' and for some the sheer joy of driving and using their 'find' overshadows the detail required by others. To each his/her own.

We recently looked at a TF here in the Twin Cities and it sold on E Bay for 19000.00. It was not as nice as the one listed now but was a good driver. All the same that one is not worth 45000.00 IMHO.
Tom

Gentlemen....lets be a bit more charitable, after all at some point that TF was owned by someone who enjoyed it as we enjoy ours.....he may have been a tad over zealous in the modifications but as the poet said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All in all a clean looking TF but a bit quirky here and there jeff payne TF 1085
