MG TD TF 1500 - New Version of MG AuctionWatch - and TTT2 as well
Hi chaps, As I mentioned on the eBay thread, today I finally released an updated version of MG AuctionWatch (http://www.mgauctionwatch.com). If you're unaware of the site, it basically takes the spaghetti mess of T-Series listings on eBay and slots them into neat categories whilst filtering as much of the chaff as possible (like those ubiquitous "car covers", "seat covers" and the like). It also has searches for Lucas Parts, SU, Smiths/Jaeger and map searches so you can find parts and cars (including any LBC) in your vicinity. This version includes a number of improvements, including many more parts (the previous version was limited to 200), image previews (just roll over a picture to display a bigger version), faster performance, better searching, and all parts filtered into subcategories as best as possible such as brakes, suspension, interior, engine etc. There are a few things to iron out, but generally speaking it should be a nice, clean way for you to keep an eye on eBay cars and parts activity without the annoyances of the main eBay site's search. Here's the MG T-Series page: http://www.mgauctionwatch.com/ttype Also we published Issue 10 of Totally T-Type 2 (http://ttypes.org/ttt2) to the web today - subscriber emails are going out as I type this - busy day in the James Household today! Happy MotorinG, Steve James. |

Steve, New Auction Watch displays perfectly in Firefox but has errors top and bottom of page in IE 9. Regards, Jim |

Thanks for the feedback, chaps! Jim, strange - we have IE9 here and it's working OK. I think clearing your cookies might solve the problem; I'll email you off list. Thanks Steve |
Steve James |
Steve, You are absolutely correct. Jim |

OK great! Ignore the email I sent you, then! :D Thanks, Steve |

Steve Update looks good, but I have come across a problem. I am using IE, I have a problem in that I am unable to get past pg 1 (ie to pg 2, 3 or next pg) on the T Parts (all)) - can only view first 200 or over 400 entries. Address bar changes to indicate the new page, but the page shown is the same. regards Stuart |
Stuart Duncan |
Thank you Stuart - that should now be fixed. |
Steve James |
Steve , Even better than last time! Thank you so much. BTW : Wife thinks it's a good idea when I clean my cookies also. Cheers. David |

Steve - I have enjoyed your Auction Watch for as long as you have had it up and running. The new watch looks great, but when I click on SU parts what is displayed is Carbs (0) fuel pumps (0). There was a whole passel full of both on sections before. Cheers - Dave |

I have a brown stripe running down through the listings. Also It's showing all the UK listings along with the US/Canada listings. Love the work though, Rarely go to the regular FeeBay site now. |
LaVerne |
Many thanks, Dave. You should now be seeing SU parts in both categories. LaVerne, can I ask what internet browser you are using (type and version)? I have tested on Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 9, Chrome 16 and Safari 5 and the site works fine on all those, but I haven't tried any older versions of them. To "hide" the UK listings that are amongst the US/Canada listings, look in the top right of the auctions screen for a dropdown named "Region". It's probably set to "Worldwide" by default - if you set it to "US/Canada Only" it will not displaything outside of North America. Thanks for all the help in getting the new version up to working speed! cheerio, Steve. |

Steve The update looks useful, well done. I am getting the same issue as LaVerne, a brown stripe down the page (same colour as the rest of the frame, I'm using IE9, it goed through the item description if it is long. It looks as though the longer item descriptions should wrop onto the next line as in some cases they run into the price. Regards John |

Steve Here is an example what is heppening Regards John |

Thanks John, appreciate the feedback - do you get it on every page, or only on certain pages? If it's the latter, could you post a link here to the page that is giving you the problem? I too have a feeling it might be due to some listings being too long for the line and "popping" out of the frame. Some people on eBay LIST.ITEMS.WITH-TITLES-WITHOUT.SPACES,LIKETHIS and so my site can't wrap the title naturally as it does with titles with spaces, hence it pops out of the frame on the right hand side (the brown line). I will have to add a check for such annoying titles and artifically add a space in them to stop this from happening. Should be fixed in a bit! |

Thanks John - that's really strange, I have IE9 and that page is displaying fine for me! Aargh! Do you think you could do me a quick favour? If you go to the "Help" menu of Internet Explorer and then click "About", what version does it say you have? Is it defintely 9.something? |
Steve James |
Ah! I think I've cracked it, John - that first image looks like the *old* footer from the site, I think your browser has cached the old images and is trying to display them. Could you try clearing your temporary internet files and then seeing if it fixes the problem? To do this you: -Go to IE9 and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete together - this brings up the Delete Browing History dialog box -Ensure that only "Temporary Internet Files" is ticked -Click the "Delete" button at the bottom. This will purge any temp files IE has cached, and may take a few minutes. When it's done, hopefully http://www.mgauctionwatch.com/ytype will display correctly again. Hopefully..! Many thanks, Steve. |

Steve I've cleared the temporary internet files (and cookies) but the results are the same. Attached another example, and the next post will include the IE version. John |

John, thanks for your help and patience. I have to say - I'm stumped! Your first image definitely shows the old footer from the old site, so something screwy is going on... I'll keep looking into it but I'm at a loss at the moment! Thanks again, Steve |
Steve James |
Steve No problem, the site is still usable and useful Thanks John |

I know it's the devil in me but I always smile when there are PC problems. Sent from my Mac |

No PC problems, just "user error". John has done a bang-up job on his search engine. |
James Neel TD28423 |
Steve, I have the same thing John does. I did find that I needed to click on the location button after selecting the Items I wanted to look at even though I had selected that on the main page. Running Chrome. |
LaVerne |
Steve I tried turnilg compatability mode on in IE9, this made matters worse - however when I turned it back off again it cleared the problem and the site displays OK now. LaVerne, it may be worth trying it, unter Tools on the menu bar. John |

Great news, John! |
Steve James |
Thank you for your work Steve. This is very helpful. |
