MG TD TF 1500 - new wooden steering wheel

I like to share this with you Guy's if interested.

On EBay I found a seller for wooden steering wheels 15 " ( they have larger ones ) for a price what I held for unbelievable. Decided to order one . Today it arrived and it is absolutely beautiful.

I have no interest in this seller but you may want to check it out , EBay 310657878978 price 109,95 USD

Gerard, How did you mount the wheel? Did it come with a hub? It really looks nice. One thing I never liked about the original wheel is, it's too thin in the grip. I prefer a thicker grip area. Like being caught between a rock and a hard place, I want to keep the car as original as possible, but don't care for the steering wheel grip. PJ
Paul sr

THEIR web site indicates that the hub must be purchased separatly,,,,from motolita,,,

paul,
the Motolita that I have in our TD is smaller in overall diameter,, it gives more room for the legs..easier getting in and out,,,

Wow! As nice as either Tourist Trophy or Mota Lita (at least from the picture)....Great find!
Either one of those requires the hub, anyway.....
How is the metal thickness?
I used a 14 inch Tourist Trophy in "Rocky", and a 15" Mota lita in my Factory Five.
The 14" does give ease of entry and exit, especially compared to the "bus driver" stock wheel.

I wonder if those holes match up with the non-stock (Moto Lita I think) hub currently on my TD. It's the same number of holes. Can you determine the diameter of the hole centers?

Thanks.

I noticed that that seller on ebay also lists a smaller dia. wheel which might be acceptable.

Some questions answered.

Jud :holes match non stock boss as I have .

Caesy: Depends how you look at , M sales price plus freight and the one advertised plus freight, Just do the math.

Paul : standard montage you lock the boss with a nut.

Edward :metal is 4 mm thick.

Al : you are correct : that one is also a bit cheaper
98,-- USD

For further questions I would like to refer to the ad . The seller also has email.

I was thinking of a Brooklands wheel for a thicker grip, but it would also be period correct. Yes/No? PJ
Paul sr

PJ,

I have a Brooklands wheel and the grip is about the same thickness as a stock wheel. It would be period correct I believe.

I did too, but I couldn't get my fat legs and stomach in the car , without a shoe horn.

I would dare to say the guy in the video could tear up a stock wheel in short order also!
David Sheward

Who is calling who fat? I can just fit behind the stock wheel with the seat all the way back and I say I'm not fat. No you can not ask the wife.

I don't think I have ever heard the phrase :-

Say Hon - Does this steering wheel make me look Fat?

I'm even more sure I would not like the answer :)
