MG TD TF 1500 - New Zealand National Pre-56 2015 Video
I've just put a hasty compilation of still and video on YouTube, covering our latest Pre-56 Nationals. As more material comes in, I'll update it. The first Rally was in 1977. The new video's at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl5BJ7jwWoQ We had 66 cars and 138 people to this one, in the small West Coast town of Greymouth. Most events were in the Shantytown Historic Park - it uses re-positioned local buildings to replicate an old gold mining town. The MGA/Z's with us compete for a separate set of trophies, so it works out well. We had people from Australia and Britain at this one - no-one from the USA, though. There's often a car available for entrants without one. Next event is in 2017. |

Very nice. And it looks professionally done. I am sure all the participants will value the production for years. Nice eclectic mix of cars too, but you need to do something about the weather. Please send that rain to California. We are trying to collect it. |

DAVE, It sure looks like it was a fantastic event!! All of the participants look to be having a great time ! Even in the wet. I can well understand that the behind the scenes effort that it takes to organize such an event is monumental !! You, Margaret and the rest of the organizers deserve a “HUGE WELL DONE AND THANK YOU !” So I took the liberty of adding the Organizers. Steve, good luck with your gathering. Sorry we won't make it. We are doing a trip this year, but it's not till September and the nearest it will get to Britain is Amsterdam. I find that Windows Moviemaker is straightforward to use for documenting these events, if you can persuade someone to do enough photography and video. We may just make the French gathering in 2016, but that depends on our house being demolished and rebuilt in time - it was damaged during the Christchurch Earthquakes. David PS Christopher, a couple of days after we left Greymouth, the TV News showed people happily kayaking down the street that runs past Monteith's. You're welcome to as much rain as you can carry. |

Dave, Thanks,I will inquire if some one in our Club will come forwrd to attempt it with Moviemaker. At last years event, we did have a friend of mine do a youtube with his 8 rotor UAV,,, Great aerials, but I think the "up close and personal" views that you achived would be a benifit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IhWBMKLt3A&feature=youtu.be His web site is; http://www.notadrone.com/home.html Steve |

Thanks, Steve, I do like the aerials. Moviemaker is a little frustrating at first, but OK once you know it. I don't think there is a 'Dummies Guide' to it, but one would be helpful. I suppose there's a Board on it someplace, but I haven't checked yet. One of the most interesting tools, if you are using a lot of stills, is the ability to animate them in various ways - for example, my shot showing the front of a Y Type and the gymkhana flags is done that way, with a pan across the shot. Incidentally, I've just noticed that there have been 70 views so far - most must be from here, as only our Committee have been told the initial version is up. When we put the detailed results on line we'll ask for more material. David PS My TF is the one in front |

As one of the International entrants to the Greymouth Rally, I concur about it being mostly "well done" - however the road rally or "trial" as they called it, sadly did not match the standard of the rest of the event. Some sections were simply dangerous with opposing rally traffic on twisty single lane gravel roads in heavy forest. I lost count of the number of times my navigator had to leave the car and cross a public road to obtain obscure and irrelevant answers to questions. Many crews simply gave up & went home, to which the rally director showed no concern for any ones welfare. Questions from the floor at the presentation regarding how many crews actually completed the course were rudely dismissed. Some crews who figured in the results were even seen to arrive AFTER the final control was supposed to have closed. A trial or rally, should be a test of the car and the crew to traverse a given course in a prescribed time - it should never be a childish treasure hunt, poorly organised and managed even worse. But that's just my opinion, maybe I'm just getting too soft in my old age. The upside is the next Pre-56 Rally Trial in 2017 on the North Island will be very different I understand. Tony |
