MG TD TF 1500 - Newcomer says hello

Hello,

I am new to the forum and want to introduce myself before I will let you know my many questions or my first experiences.

I'm a retired engineer (electrical supply)and live in Bavaria. I had bought a MG TD RHD two weeks ago. My first old limousine is a Mercedes Benz W136040 170S, also from 1950. Therefore I have choosen the nick (from Béla Barényi). Together with my son in law we are trying to keep our cars running. He owns a Chrysler windsor de luxe and Mercedes Benz C126 560SE.

Let's have a good time!

W. Mueller

Welcome to the MG BBS! There is a wealth of experience here and the members are very willing to share their knowledge. Your TD is a beauty.

Greetings from the UK! It seems that you have some very nice cars there.

W. Welcome, and I have a question for you from Colorado! You have the same luggage rack and tonneau cover as I. How does the tonneau fit around the luggage rack? Did you have to modify it? I ask because mine does not fit well at all. The cutouts in the tonneau just aren't deep enough!

Keep on posting,
Ed
PS: I think everyone here enjoys learning new words and expressions from other countries. Therefore I ask what do you mean by:
"Therefore I have choosen the nick (from Béla Barényi)"?

Hello W. Mueller and welcome!
That's a very nice early TD with the solid wheels, and it is sporting a rather unique hub cap on the spare wheel!

And a warm welcome from the Netherlands!

Nice to see another '50 RHD black TD on the continent! What's your production number? Did you buy her in Germany?

See www.tregister.org for the production record of your car and of course Chris Couper's www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd for everything you want to know about these cars.

And yes, this BBS is the site to ask your questions!

Welcome. A nice looking TD. We would love to know what number it is. The solid wheels would have been found on a very early car.

Welcome from Florida. That's a nice looking TD. I am also a fan of the look of solid wheels.

Who knows, maybe your car is in this 1950 video ...

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

My car has the number TD1824 and had been builded in may 1950 for export. I bought it from a german citizen who lives also in Bavaria and owned the car since 46 years.

All wheels are solid with slots. An other german owner told me, only cars to number 500 had been delivered with this wheels. So I wonder myself why this car has this wheels.

In this forum the nickname is obsolet - but I use it in our country and it is dedicated to a genius engineer - have a look at

Hi

As a newbie I don't have knowledge what parts are original and what parts have been restored in the 80th. I guess the tonneau is not original but it fits (with pulling a little bit). There are 4 cuts at the points, where the luggage rack is fastened.

Herr Mueller, a warm welcome from South Carolina.

And a warm welcome from the Frankfurt area.

Good to buy a car from a long term owner, they are usually in good condition, and yours looks beautiful
