MG TD TF 1500 - Oh happy day, got my TD running for the first time
I picked it up in April. My Uncle had given it to me as we were supposed to work on it this year and get it running but he passed away before work even began. So...it runs. I had rebuilt the carbs, new fuel pump, went through the starter and generator and distributor. It didn't want to start at first but I traced that down to the coil hi tension lead not fully seating in the distributor (that took a while). She popped right off after that. I had primed the oil pump and actually attained 20lbs by hand cranking it. Pourd oil down the push rod tubes to the cam and lubed everything up I could before hand. No adverse noises or anything. Will need to do some work on obtaining a smooth idle but at least it runs. And I even figured out some of my electrical gremlins. I had posted that the red engine light, fuel pump etc. were all on even with the switch off. Someone had posted to check the fuses as they can be put in the wrong slot and cause problems. Sure enough, that was it. Horn still doesn't work but I'll get to that. For now, I'm happy, it runs. And I'm sure my uncle has a smile on his face to see his beloved old TD running again. |

Congrats on your accomplishment. That is a nice feeling = especially on a car that has not seen service in a long time. Pat yourself on the back! Jeff |

Congrats -- You have completed the first step in a lifetime occupation, keeping the TD running. With a little TLC it will not take much time and the reward will be many happy miles of exciting driving. I am sure your Uncle is smiling wherever he is. Cheers, Bob |
