Georg,
Very nice work Georg !! I couldn't open the drawing. Is it steel?

Steve Wincze

Steve, try clicking on the image of the adapter to get an enlarged view. Does Bob Grunau make an adapter for early engines with the vertical filter?
Bud Krueger

Bud,
I did that, and it's a real nice job,, but then when I click on "weiter/next", I'm trying to open the actual drawing that Georg posted, but I can't seem to get anything readable... I haven't seen any other adapters for verticle filters,,,

Steve Wincze

Bud,

Yes, Bob makes an adapter for both the early and later filters...

about halfway down the page are the items he sells.

I had no problems opening both pix and enlarging them ... good 'ole Windows 98/2 comes through again!

Congratulations George, first on a very nice web-site, and for what looks like a professional job on the oil filter adapter.

It exemplifies the quality of workmanship that the Germans are famous for.

Now, can you please design a 6-speed transmission for the TD/TF, that bolts right in, without any modifications? And for less than €500!

Georg,

I enjoy looking at your pictures and seeing your progress. Nice adapter!

Gordon,
Were you able to open the drawing ??

So I need some info. I bought an adapter on ebay but don't know what number filter to use with it. I suppose I could take it down and match one up but it's easier to pick your collective wisdom.

Steve, what makes you say that there's a drawing to be opened? I've missed that. I only see images of the adapter.
Bud Krueger

Bud,
When you open up Georg's web site www.mgtd.de you see the picture of the adapter,,, if I click on "weiter/next", I see a photo of the old filter compared to the new one, just below that is another photo of the new adapter, and below that I think is the drawing of the adapter. It's not clear on my PC at home or this one at work.

Dave C., if it was the Bob Grunau type oil filter adapter then you can use the CPH 3600 from FRAM or any other manufacturer with the same number . They are a common size. Cheers, Keith

Steve, I just didn't look far enough down on that page to see the drawing. The drawing is at http://www.mgtd.de/images/stories/TD/Motor/l_adapter.jpg but it's low resolution. I'll try some more uncoding and see if I can find a better image.

Thanks Keith

Hi all,

thanks for the answers. The Drawing from the Oil-filter you can open here. We have made the Filter from Steel but i think he can made from aluminium.

Gordon, sorry we are constructing a Automatic transmission for the TD. :-))

a nice Week

Georg Becker

PS: sorry for my bad English.

Georg

Georg,
The drawing opens fine now! Again, NICE JOB !!

George,
Are you serious about "sorry we are constructing a Automatic transmission for the TD" ?
I am courious about this if you are.
I am an amputee (left leg above knee) and have been "kicking" (pardon the pun) the idea of a hand clutch for my TF around for several years now. I don't want to go "auto" and recently might be making some progress toward a resonably cost effective alternative.
The operative word's here being "cost effective".
Why an automatic? Maybe we should talk off line about this...not sure many others would have any intrest in it!

David,

it was a Joke with the Automatic-Transmission and the answer on Gordons comment:
"Now, can you please design a 6-speed transmission for the TD/TF, that bolts right in, without any modifications? And for less than €500!"

Georg

George,
I see the smiley now!...duh....
Oh well ...if anybody on that side of the pond knows anything about a company called "Guido Simplex" ...I am trying to find a "duck clutch" (maybe a used one?) at a reasonable price. I have found a source over here, (exclusive dealer for USA), however $7k plus shipping cost of my car from Oh. to Ca. and back is not in my price range! (They will not sell "just the unit). Guido is an Italian Company but does not sell to public. There has got to be one of these sitting on a shelf collecting dust somewhere over there that I could pick up for a reasonable price.

Dave. You might want to contaact Mark Brandow at Quality Coaches in Minneapolis about an automatic. Seems to me he did one years ago for a guy. Dont know if he changed engines also or not.
Tom

Tom...
YIKES NO...I would never put an automatic in this car! (or change the engine) ...I was going to try and talk George out of it if they were serious! (in favor of a hand clutch)!!! "DUCK CLUTCH"
I would be the guy hopping on one foot leading the angry mob (torch in each hand) to the garage of anybody that would put an automatic tranny in a "T".
The "devise" I seek,("DUCK CLUTCH")
is, simply put. a servo motor that pulls a cable (attached to back of clutch pedal leaving it fully operational for 2 footed driver) but has an adjustable lever bolted to the gearshift and a processor that lets you adjust the "feel" to something very natural.
Cheers,

Dave, you let someone else drive your TF? I would think we should be able to come up with a custom solution to your clutch problems. Being curious ( wife says nosey) how did you lose the leg. My uncle lost his right arm in a hay baler as a kid and my grand dad lost one to the hip and another below the knee to diabetes. My uncle can do anything you can do and better, even once had a motorcycle set up with all the hand controls on the left side. Also a previous MGB owner . My grand dad adapted to his later in life. Made is own crutchs ( little shorties) and modified his International Travelall for all hand controls. His only concesion was that my dad and his brothers finnally built him and my grandmother an indoor bathroom including a tub. Until then it was an out house and they came to our house on Sundays for their weekly bath.

LaVerne
LED DOWNEY

LaVerne,
Short answers (as not to bore others).
No I drive the TF! 1972 motorcycle / farming accident ...Me Honda CR810 (cafe' racer), him 19' John Deer Combine (no lights)..21' country road, on a curve at night. He "won".
I'll give you more info "off line" on the quest for hand clutch!
Cheers,
