MG TD TF 1500 - Original style radio antenna
Does anyone know where to source one of these--has two mounting holes on the driver's side (can be new or used) I looked at several sites including Moss, Abingdon Spares and From the Frame up with no success. Car came with one originally as the holes are there. Thanks! |

Look on eBay...they are advertised there. By the way, these antennas are in no way "original". |

To my knowledge, all antennas and radios were a dealer supplied item and you took what ever they were selling at the time. There are variations in both for this reason. In the T series, they were not a factory option. PJ |

I'd be curious to see images of dealer-supplied period antennas... |

Quote: " By the way, these antennas are in no way "original". Unquote. That's good to know. I forgot to plug the hole I have in my scuttle before sending it to the painters. I had thought the "proper" type was the side mounted ones. Now I feel better about a scuttle mounted one. Jim B. |

Mine was side-mounted on the driver's side with two 1/2" holes, now filled. I still have the bakelite mounting pads but not the antenna itself, or any cabling. Tim |

I have installed an original style radio and antenna on my TD using the factory data sheet, 2 pages, first is attached, the second to follow. |

It's interesting, the holes on my car are on the left (USA driver's side) and I'm now seeing lots of images with it on the right. The holes on mine also appear much closer together than the drawing from John. Can folks weigh in on antenna side vs. steering wheel side on their car? Just curious. |

My antenna was mounted as illustrated by John: right hand side, right hand drive. Tim |

I saw a TD a while ago that had the antenna fitted under the passenger's running board! No sign of a radio, of course - long gone. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I had holes for an antenna on the right side of my LHD car. I assumed the antenna was placed there because it was the side closest to the radio. I had my holes filled in when the car was painted. |

As a rule the antenna should be placed on the opposite side to the ignition. this is to minimize RFI (Radio Frequency Interference). In our case this is the right hand side. John |

Why would someone want a radio in the first place on a T series car. listening to the motor, the wind and the sounds from the exhaust are what one listens to in a T series. My nephew gets my car one day and he wants to put a radio in it. I told him when I am in the ground he can do as he wishes but not till then. most of the time with a radio you cant hear the thing anyway..JMHO. |
