MG TD TF 1500 - Original TD tach cable
We were in need of one for the TD 1250 and the owner brought home a box of 6 from Sports Car Craftsmen on a recent trip to Denver. Of note were two of them had identicle plastic covering that clearly hd makings of where they were held in place by the clamp near the battery. Any thoughts?

TF's (at least 9052) have this covering on the TAC cable. I did not see it on any of the TD pictures (latest being TD29539). TMK (and catalogs) the LHD TD and TF use the same TAC cable so I think you have a couple of TF cables. Note that these coverings kept being applied to more and more wires and cables over the life of the TD and TF's. I put as many of them on my car as I felt comfortable with up to it's production date. I know later TDs had a few more I left off. |

Haven't set eyes on a measuring tape like that for quite a while--all inches, no metric Cheers willy |

All TFs orignally did have this plastic type covering
on the Tacho cable. Often missing on otherwise well detailed, rebuilt cars. On the wiring harness adjacent to the Lucas Relay area, there are also originally three(3) plastic short sleeves covering the wiring harness branches. Again, many new, reproduced wiring harness do not include these protective sleeves. The late Vic Longden from Western Australia included these correct sleeving pieces with his excellently detailed new harnesses. Chris what other areas on a TD have sleeving? |

Bill: For the TD it can vary by year. Most of this stuff showed up in 52/53.
All cars had the rubber sleeve on the license plate lamp wiring but that is a bit different. And of course you have a sleeve on the fog lamp wire end. The one place that has this covering for sure in the power cables bundle from the starter switch (where the negative lead attaches) to the grommet. Its a struggle to get all of this snapped into that clip. The other place I have seen it is the harness that drops behind the pedal box from the junction. It stops just after it comes from behind the master cylinder. Anyway look at this page for the complete list for TD and TF (scroll to protective coverings) https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_details_wiring.htm |

Thanks Chris. By the way, I still have the latex tubing for the the license plate wiring that I ordered for Bruce, you and myself a while back. Bruce came down and got the piece I had earmarked for him. Bill Chasser TD-4834 |
