MG TD TF 1500 - Pancake Air Filters
After a three year restoration, I registered by 53TD today! Until I win the lottery and can afford to purchase the original air filter system, I've temporarily decided to use pancake air filters. How have other TD owners dealt with the radiator support bracket / front carb space conflict. I found a response from someone in the archives that suggests running the support bracket through the middle of the filter element! There has to be a better way. Thanks! |

Bill, I also have pancake style air filters (Stelling&Hellings). As far as the radiator support bracket - do not cut a hole in the air filter! The bracket can be bent slightly to bypass the filter (obviously with some adjustment to account for the bend). Mine is setup that way and works fine. Alo, if you have Stellings&Hellings type air filter (with foam filter element), you might try replacing the foam with a pleated-air filter. I got the pleated type at NAPA, part number 2872 I believe, which is about 1.5" thick, and just clears the bonnet at the front. At about $5 each, cheap, and easier to clean than foam (plus the car breathes better. Good luck and Safety Fast! Larry '51TD |

Hi Bill; You can look under the thread Fouling Plugs for my input on your question. I had a senior moment yesterday but what can you do? Dick |
