MG TD TF 1500 - Parts quality article

There is an article the abysmal quality of many collector car replacement parts in the new issue of American Car Collector magazine. They mention exhaust gaskets made out of non-heat resistant materials, weatherstrip, upholstery, brake cylinders, and pretty much everything that fits poorly or fails quickly. The conclusions are to support suppliers that get it right, we have been part of the problem because of wanting and insisting on inexpensive/cheap, and that the good stuff will cost more. I would quote or copy but due to the copywrite police on the board will not. George

Unfortunately, I don't know any supplier who consistently gets it right. The average person has to take their chances and hope for the best.

Just ordered "exact duplicate" door handles from Moss and they are anything but. Poor handle casting definition, no dust cover on the spring and the shaft was chrome and too short. The too short shaft was killer for me.

Cleaned the original handles and re-installed them. You can call Moss, but they always say "we sell 1000s of these and you are the only person who ever complained".

I'll add the door handles to the list that I'm compiling. It's now well over 50 items. If I lived in the States I'd hand deliver it to Glen Adams, the CEO of the Western Division, (not that it'd do any good). I rang & spoke to him at 3 am Sydney time over 3 years ago & he promised he'd personally investigate the list which then was just 17 items & get back to me. Would you believe I'm still waiting for a reply? Cheers

Many spare parts are only blanks and must be reworked to fit. But if a shaft is too short it is garbage.
