MG TD TF 1500 - Pedals Fume Excluder

Mounting the fume excluder around the pedals, Im not sure if the two rear holes in the retainer plate gets screws or bolts. The two front appear to be screws, as the firewall plate has capture nuts, but I have no holes yet in the new floor for the two rear bolts/screws and need to know, are the two holes for capture nuts, or wood screws? Are they bolts or screws? Size? PJ

TF may be different, but they're all for wood screws on a TD. Bud

Were the wood screws on the rear of the retainer plate flat or dome heads? I would assume straight slot? PJ
Paul S Jennings

PJ,

When I took mine apart there were split rivets holding down the retaining plate to fasten the rubber boot.

Round head copper. They were small so they did not punch through the floor boards.

Unsure about the bolts or bolt holes you are talking about. I haven't really handled the piece since taking it apart.
Frank Cronin

The last one I saw had round-head slotted screws.

Very interested in the outcome of this one. Cheers

Looking down on top of the retainer plate, the forward corner on the transmission side, there's a hole in the floor board for a machine screw down to a capture nut on the bulkhead foot plate. I have to check the left side of the foot plate to see if there's a capture nut there also and I'll do that today. I will say this, it's a real PITA to work on! PJ

The image attached is of my unrestored 55 TF1500 that I just recently began disassembling. The floor boards were broken at the location shown. These are round head phillips wood screws.

Hope this helps,

Dan

The hole in the Pedal Seal matches up with a captive nut in the top of the pedal box. Bud

Unrestored TF 1500 Dan? Not too many of them about. Take plenty of pics even of the most insignificant things. Frank, Matthew, Rob, PJ, Tom, Rod & Chris, along with the rest of the TF world would be very keen to see them. Seems like both slot heads & Phillips heads were in use here. Cheers

Yes Peter, unrestored but not untouched. It has had things done to over the years. Was placed in storage in 1974. Best I can tell (since this is my first MG) it has had one engine rebuild and one repaint along with some wiring modifications. Is that considered unrestored?

DHN Nordstrom

DHN. Definitely unrestored but not untouched so its a mixed bag. But its not usually too difficult to determine what might have been 'restored' on the car when you dig into it a bit and compare your car to the supposed 'original' cars.

There are very few cars out there that have not been touched beyond the usual perishables. But even when we find original cars you still have to compare what you see with others just to make sure. Its not a good idea to go with one source if you are looking to be certain. Once we start seeing the same object three or four times we can get comfortable. When we only see a feature on one car, no matter what the mileage is or how untouched it is, it sends up a red flag.

Note that even on TF9052 we added some comments to a few of the pictures because it showed attributes we have not generally seen on other cars near its production number. It does not mean we implied that car was altered, but just that it does not fit the 'norm' of what we have seen on other cars that have not been restored.

Dan, Bud, thanks for those photos. A picture is truly worth a thousand words! I've found other Phillips on my car, the screws that hold the tool box lid on. PJ
