MG TD TF 1500 - Pertronix for TF
I'm considering a pertronix for the TF 1500, but after cruising the archives, I get conflicting input on which exact model number is appropriate for the negative-ground TF. Some people say the LU-146LS (lobe-sensing) is the one, but I think that's for early dizzys. I think I have a symmetric cam, but a lobe appears noticeably worn (photo). There is also an issue about what type of wires to run (solid core or stranded core) with the Pertronix. I would appreciate any advise. Thanks, Tyler |

Tyler, the type of cam doesn't matter with the LS version. The cam type was significant in the earlier models that used a magnet sleeve that went over the cam. The issue of wiring is important with the LS version. You'll want to obtain a set of ignition wires of the RFI protected type. Metallic wires will cause problems. (I had to make my own to connect up to the distributor cap.) The other important issue is to be certain to get the model that matches the polarity of your ground. Bud |
