MG TD TF 1500 - Pertronix Lobe Sensor Units
There was a recent thread leading to this, but I can't find it. Sorry - As a result of the issue about the effect of the magnetic collar acting upon the carbon brush due to the rotor (wheew) I've given serious thought to converting my LU-146 pertronix Igniter to one of the new LU-146LS (lobe sensing) Igniters. Spoke to a tech at Pertronix today. Yes, the LU-146LS can be installed in place of the LU-146. BUT!!!! they strongly suggest that you get rid of any solid ignition wire or you can expect misfires!!! Very frustrating. Think I'll stick with the LU-146 that has worked fine since 1999 and keep my copper. See http://www.ttalk.info/Failure.htm for more about the collar/rotor/brush problem. Bud |

Good to know, thanks Bud. |

Thinking about a LU-146LS as a "spare". I run Lucas bumble-bee plug wires (stranded). If anybody here does the LU-146 / LU-146LS "swap"...I would be interested to know if timing changed. I know if I had to swap my pertronix for spare points I carry now that timing would be an issue. Murphy's law states that if it goes out, no doubt it will be raining, dark, and cold! LOL |
