MG TD TF 1500 - Pertronix LU-146LS
A couple of weeks ago I said that I'd take on the challenge of getting a pertronix LU-146LS Igniter (LS=Lobe Sensor)to function in a TD. Today I put about 25 miles on Lazarus (my '52 TD) with an installed LU-146LS. The most time consuming aspect of the job was the creation of a set of EMI/RFI suppressed ignition cables. The most frustrating part was in trying to perform an initial static ignition timing. I'll give more details in following posts, but I have a few more things to mention. Lazarus has a negative ground system. I installed the Igniter onto a new ignition plate (Moss #152-900) rather than mess with my original points plate. Lazarus has a D2A 40368 distributor and a Lucas Sports Coil. I used the rotor that came with the Igniter. The LU-146LS gave me the smoothest, most willing to rev, performance that Lazarus has ever shown. More to come. Bud |

same as my experience with the same set up. Smooth and eager to rev |

Bud, Here is some info from the archives about static timing the pertronix...good info from the late Bob Jeffers http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2008061101124711663 |

Thanks, Bob. I've set up quite a few LU-146's with the static timing, ala points. I suspect that the lobe sensing Igniter may be operating with a different paradigm. The susceptibleness to EMI/RFI indicates an oscillatory circuit, rather than the emulation of an ignition point's opening. I'll start doing some digging shortly. Bud |

Bud, again, thank you. |
