MG TD TF 1500 - Pertronixs & unshielded wires...

At a tech session for my Club, a member stated that if you have a pertronixs and unshielded plug wires (I have bumble bee)you can get electrical interference with the hall effect of the pertronixs...I don't seem to feel any but he said if i change to a shielded wire I'll notice the difference. Anyone else ever hear about this?

I have bumble bee wires and a pertronix on my TF. Performance is fabulous. I can't understand what more I could expect from changing my wires.

I have unshielded wires, as well. Runs great. You get about 5% increased horsepower.

Hall effects uses magnetism. There are magnets on the ring on the shaft. Don't think magnetism will be disrupted by high voltage. After all the rotor, inside the distributor is normally distributing the spark an inch or 2 from the sensor.

Hall effect sensors are, as Larry states magnetic devices and are unaffected by stray voltages. Bring a strong magnet close to the distributor and it will have an effect. The gentleman who was having the issue may have been experiencing a problem with high voltage arcing between wires. cheers - Dave

I was at the tech session where that was brought up. I don't believe a word of it. I make my living in electronics and that is just BS. I didn't say anything at the meeting because I didn't want to embaras the person who said it.

Besides where in the world would you get shielded spark plug wires. Except the type used on aircraft radial engines.
Cheers,
