Hi Gordon,

Thanks for offering, and being able to set up the photograghs of some magnificent cars and their owners who are part of this forum.

Looks like I am photograph Number 12 with the TF.Is it possible to identify the other owners? Great to put a name to the 'face'of someone I have,or will, communicate with in the future.

Congratulations on the effort and I would encourage all interested parties to keep the photos coming.

Hello,

Gordon, This is the best idea on this site since months or even years.
Hope this becomes a portfolio of hundreds of TD's & Tf's!!

Erik
Erik vanHardeveld

Gordon

I agree with Erik! I would love to see a large portfolio of cars and their owners/caretakers. So far the individuals who have sent pictures to you are active on this BBS and it is great to put a face to a name. I also enjoy pictures of the cars as they are being worked on because a large number of us have been there, many times.

I will also send you a picture of my mgtf by separate email. This picture is of the car the day my son and I picked it up in Vancouver BC and towed it home. Unfortunately I haven't even started to work on it yet...soon!

Brian

Will keep this site for owners and their cars...Its interesting, over the last two years with the group, I sort of have a preconceived notion of who looks like what...this has been lots of fun seeing the actual owners... Still need more of the regulars as well as newbies and lurkers...
Please include your city/state/country...have had to go to the archives to find some of them. Anyone wanting to upgrade their photo with a new one, just send it along and I will replace the old one. Some are a bit fuzzy...I try and get an image that is 700 pixels wide.

Whether your car is an everyday runner,in the process of restoraion,or a Concours type, would really enjoy seeing the owners from the many countries who are able to access this thread.

So... is that it? only 35 members of the forum? I mean, you don't have to dress up (well, Dave did), just grab a digital camera and hand it to anyone walking past....you know they stop anyway to ask what kind of car that is...just hand it to them and have your photo taken...."Hey....hey you...come back here with my camera"!!!!!!!
gblawson - TD#27667

Well said Gordon -- I thought that by now there would be well over 100 photos to enjoy... Getting a digital photo sent anywhere on the planet is an easy and instant process... Perhaps there have been a lot of folks away on vacation, as the end of summer is here, and they haven't visited the web site to be aware of the effort... Anyway, through the years of reading all the posts about this and that concerning the "mysteries" of my wee car, I had no way to put a face on the names of those who responded... This takes care of that, and our global expanse of owners and cars are just a click away...

It doesn't matter where here is, as long as we are here...

Cheers,

Rod Macleod - TF 1500 - HDB46/6798 ("Molly")

My unrestored TD would look extremely rough among this fine selection of pristine TD's/TF's.

I understand Gordon. To most Canadians, Minnesota and Wisconsin are the same. But I can assure you Wisconsin is much prettier, but in Minnesota, the women are all good looking and the kids all above average.

" . . . where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average"

Thats ok Dave... I added a new photo of Bruce to the photo page to show off his latest...!!!

We have a 'State' joke up here.... "There are lakes in Northern Canada that are so remote, only 5 natives, 3 Inuit and a family from Ohio towing a trailer have seen them..."

(what that has to do with Minnesota and Wisconsin i don't know...)

Steve Simmons

The YB would be fine with me....
gblawson - TD#27667

To Gordon:
Great idea and great work as usual. I'll send along a shot of the '53 as soon as I clear a little maneuvering space out of the garage. The '52 is really buried in the back garage and to be honest, I'm not absolutely sure it's still in there. I'll have another look this week.

To Nick Herwegh:
Glad you relented and included the picture. I love the way yours looks as is. Don't get me wrong, the rest are pretty, to be sure, but yours has a real unmolested, "survivor" look, you don't see very often.

To Bruce Cunha:
Is that the one I saw advertised on Ebay as "needing paint"?

To All:
Notice the common thread with the majority of the pictures submitted?
It appears that the car's birthdates and the owner's birthdates are pretty much the same.
Peter Whelan

Thanks for the compliment Peter !
Actually I'm eleven years younger than my car...8^)
I'm still in doubt about restoring my TD. Many people, among them Gordon and Jan Targosz, have commented on the original look of the car. And indeed it would be a pity to ruin the patina by doing a nut and bolt restoration. Recently I saw an article in a German magazine about the restoration of a pre-war car which was tackled in the same way as Gordon did with his TD, only this one had cracked leather and rubbed through paintwork et al...
So maybe I'll try and preserve, rather than restore it using NOS parts etc. Pity only that it doesn't have the original colour anymore...
Cheers,

Nick, 52TD/63Midget/74MGB.
D.G.J. Herwegh

I was 6 years old when the TD came off the line! I was 30 when the p/o parked it and locked the barn doors...and 57 when it came out again!

Gord,
You stated that you wanted this to be the longest post on the BBS,, Well,,, In my memory, (getting shorter every year) the longest posting I remember was "How Old Are You" started by Master Dave, back in 2003 I have copied part of one which indicates that 82 responded,, There for, with 88 posts and counting,I believe you have succeded unless someone can find a longer one !!!!

"David DuBois, Bremerton, WA, ddubois at sinclair dot net
Now that the holidays are over and the dust has settled, I have finally tabulated all the responces to the above question and have some totals and averages to share with any of you who are interested. First of all, I would like to thank all of you who participated, complete with some of the more interesting comments that were added (Gord, with the weather that has come down from your area and has been hammering the Northeast states, I wonder is that 16 cords of wood you put in are going to be enough this year?).

Ok, 82 of you responded to my question of How old are you and how long have you owned your T." etc

Hey guys, love the pictures of cars in various states of repair! We have all been there at one time or another and it is really encouraging to see all stages. My TD took 5 years of work and tracking down parts but the last two years of driving it around have been fantastic. My MGTF was purchased March 5, 2005 from a fellow who had kept it in warm storage since 1981 when it was DRIVEN up to Canada from Texas. It is a low mileage original but needs a lot of wood work and some rust repair. It was purchased as a retirement project but has remained on the back burner for now. Hopefully I will get some pictures shortly to give to Gordon and then get some time to "restore" it.

I will post a couple pictures at http://www.island.net/~btsmith/
later today.

It would appear that we still have some regulars that are camera shy. In many cases (mine for example) the cars are in better shape than we are. What are you guys afraid of? If not happy with those, how about a pic with my Halloween Trick or Treat mask whilst in the TD? LOL...

dave lackey

No accounting for taste is there Gordon? When I was in high school I recovered the side panels in my 63 Sprite with the self sticking vinyl shelf liner stuff. Quite a sight. Corvette metallic blue with a bright flower yellow interior. I particulaly enjoy the *then and now" photos on the MGA board and would like to see some from the long term owners here. More "in motion" shots too. The show shots are nice, but action ones like Matthew's tickle me a little more. At some point this thread will fade into history. Perhaps the photos could be moved to the picture site on the board for posterity.

OK guys, maybe I am confusing Gordon's album with another website. I thought I remembered trying to add the data concerning engine numbers and chassis numbers along with a picture. The picture of my car is included in the album.
Jim Merz

Jim... that is the T Register site... probably best to send a car photo only (which I have recieved a few of) to them.
There are tons of sites to register cars/numbers... here we just want to see the 'guys' we are chatting with...
You all (who haven't sent them yet) might like to clean up the car this weekend, take a shot with and without you in it and kill two birds with one stone...send me the shot of you and the car and send the T register the shot of just the car...there you are... Bob's still your uncle!

(Yesterday I started shingling my shed roof...today it is pouring...no justice).
gblawson - TD#27667

Jim, Gordon,
A clarification, or mabey adding to the confusion,, The other "album" site is the MGCC T Register site, not to be confused with the New England MG "T" Register site

SPW
Steve Wincze

Thanks Steve... and not to be confused with the MG-T Data Base....

Hi Gordon,

Your skills and effort in presenting these photos is so appreciated. Now you are really 'showing off'with the name and country linked to our treasures on the base shots! On the one hand,Bruce Cunha looking with that subtle pride over a new find and the youthful Tom Manion appreciating the complete, magnificent TD.
Like it!

Hey Gordon,
Thanks for adding the word "new" to those new photos. It was getting difficult to pick out the latest additions. Very nice job and very much appreciated by all.

gblawson - TD#27667

Still a lot of names showing up on this BBS that don't appear to be represented by a picture of them and their car (or project). Any more of you willing to submit to Gordon?

Brian
Brian Smith

Gordon, this is a great idea! I just sent you my pic of my '54 TF 1250.
Howard Battan

Thanks... ok, thats 75 or so...come on a few more from the regulars!!!!!
gblawson - TD#27667

Gordon,
I sent ya a photo of me and the TD whilst on tour in the Smoky Mountains....heh, heh, but I (sneakily) hid my mug within the shadows.

I promise to get a better one for you that actually shows the TD from the front. Maybe I can wear my Halloween mask ... LOL.

Octagonlly thinking...

See we have some new ones.
LaVerne

I guess you know that there is sort of a contest between the MGA and MGT boards to see who can come up with the most pictures. I have contributed to both boards. There are some fantastic cars on both boards! This is a great way for people to see the quality of cars out there. Have a good day!

At the rate they are going, they are going to pass us in about a month....come on guys...still lots of room!!!!!

The MGA-gang has reached 78 photos !
But it looks as if they're cheating with some owners appearing on more than one photo....8^)

looks like that this month only have 20 days, when a owner has 5 mga's (Derek Nicholson )and he sends me 3 pictures with him and 3 different mga's then i put them online also when a owner send me a picture from 20 or more years ago with his mga, but maybe you D.G.J.Herwegh, you can submit a picture of your 63midget, the first T series where also called midget....8^)

Ooopppss,
Sorry if I have offended you Serge !
Wasn't meant like that: my apologies.
Anyway: you've got a deal. But I'm NOT going to send you a photo of my 63 Midget as this is stil under restoration and it would be out of tune with those splendid MGA photos.
I'll send you a photo of my (ex-) MGA instead okay ?
Cheers,

Nick, 52TD/63Midget/74MGB
D.G.J. Herwegh

Tom Maine and Lew Palmer, who do frequent this site are missing. I know Tom is successfully recovering from surgery, and Lew is working dilligently on his Airline Coupe, all sorts of random electrical components, and still has time to offer some bang up ideas to smooth the registration for GOF Central in 2007 (Chaska Minnesota!) Those two need to send in pictures, if they don't I might!

Gordon, I sent you a picture of my 53 TD but I must confess I also sent Serge a picture of my 56 A. However the A is a project car and the TD I drive now

Great action shot Matthew Magilton - Melbourne - Australia

http://gblandco.com/gb/forum/forum.html
gblawson - TD#27667

Nice one! That's what it's all about!
Steve Simmons

Thanks guys. That photo was taken by club member Robin Page during our motorkhana at the grounds of the Rob Roy hillclimb. Rob Roy is leased by the MGCC of Victoria who have a very good gallery in their website. The conditions are unusually dusty because of the drought affecting south eastern Australia. Some competitors even had to stop and pause for the dust to settle so they could see the next marker.

Cheers, Matthew.
Matthew Magilton

Cetainly a lot of other TD/TF's in those photos...any other members of the forum in there?
gblawson - TD#27667

Unfortunately, no. Although I do 'spread the word'. I dont know why there are not more Aussies in the forum. I know of 1100 TF's that came to Australia and more than half would still be around.
Matthew Magilton

Hi,
Just to put it on top again..................

looks that we finaly beat you T owners

http://users.pandora.be/mga_world/MG_A_Forum_Members/album/index.html
serge

Actually, you have tied our members... 83/83

Come on guys...someone send me a photo...!!!!

There again...there were 30,000 TD's and 10,000 TF's (give or take)...and there were 100,000+ A's.... I would say we are way ahead by percentages!!!
gblawson - TD#27667

When i have a closer look i think that we beat you T owners a week ago,84 pictures in the MG TD-TF album.
Picture nr 1 doesn't count i think becaurse there is no MG or owner.
Picture nr 48 and 49 seens to be the same picture
Picture nr 84 and 76 I don't think that this is an MG TD or TF
so 84 -4= 80

so 80/84

serge
serge

I would say 80 T-cars are worth about 160 A's... ???
gblawson - TD#27667

True, photo 1 doesn't count. But the Y-Types are open to interpretation. They are basically a TD with a saloon body on them, but came before the TD was made and carried a different model name.

Ok, the Y-Types count for 1/2 a TD each. How's that for a compromise? ;) And on that note, Arnolts will also count as 1/2 TD.
Steve Simmons

Got one more.... thanks Curt!!!

Seamus,

No what is that J2 doing in your photo that we don't have on the North American Triple-M Register? (And maybe even not on the MG Car Club Triple-M Register.)

Send me your email and details of the car (chassis, engine, etc. and I get you membership details.

Hi All,

About 2 weeks to Christmas and we promised Gordon L the 'ton' in photos! So close now.

Rob. Grantham
Rob. Grantham

Hi Lew:
My '32 J2 was restored in 1982 by Brian Wilson, Oxfordshire,UK (NOT the Beach Boy) and has just over 2000 mi. since. It bears its original Bluemels number plates (RV2595) and was purchased new by Lt.G.H.C. Dickens, RN (not Registered Nurse, but Royal Navy) who was the grandson of Charles Dickens. The Chassis is #J2107 and original engine was #633AJ which blew up at Pendine Sands, Wales in the 50s. Wilson replaced it with engine #2009AJ. The car is exactly like it left the factory Oxford and Cambidge blue with the options, as Dickens ordered them, of
headlight stone guards, leather bonnet strap, brooklands wind screens, brooklands wheel, clock, temp. guage and luggage rack.
The car is registered with MMM Register UK #1484.
The car is featured in 1982 Automobile Quarterly volume XX no.4, MG by Ian Penberthy, 1982 Triple M Yearbook, 1983 The Automobile (December) and Classic Cars April 1985. This car sold at Christies in 1983 for a then record price of GBP 14,000. I have owned the car since 2004 and have taken first at every show so far.
I wish I had this much info on my TF (#1260) but at least the TF is not 'too nice' to be an every day driver.

Thanks Bud... another one... come on, we need at least 3 to make up for a couple of doubles!!!!

I think we have to apply the "rules" in a more creative way gentlemen !
The MGA-gang is using archive photos too....
Probably someone here with a nice B&W photo of the MG T-type he USED TO OWN ......8^)
If we continue this race in a much too nice manner, we are not going to be at one-hundred photos as a first !

To Gordon Lawson(Canada),

A big thankyou and appreciation for your idea and work setting up the "Faces associated with Cars exercise." I feel the concept you developed this year has linked TDers and TFers around the world in a more personal, meaningful way with useful technical and social banter being interchanged. With literally thousands of TDs and TFs in USA alone,it would be gratifying to see 200 faces up by Christmas eve next year!

Cheers and Merry Christmas
