Probably good there are many fuses!
George Butz

WOW, that thing will need a complete redo. holes in the scuttle and rear where it looks like radio ant. went, really nice dash LOL..all vynal is a nice touch don't you think.
Tom Maine

Looks perfectly good to me :-)

The Beverly Hills Car Club is famous for all sorts of wacky TD's.

I use them as a source for the remuddled pages. Not sure where they dig these cars up :-)
Chris Couper

No worries, all that wiring is the flux capacitor. Notice the heater hoses running into the tool box. They opted for the option that allows the car to levitate and jump into dimensional time mode without getting her up to 88. Check out how the license plate light is on the bottom, thats to reduce drag.
Rich (TD 3983) Taylor

Not sure about Heater holes Rich :)
On my RHD TD they are for the Oil Pressure line and original Tach Drive cable.

I wonder if the driver bangs his shin with that dip switch up there. Mine is some what lower than that

Rod

R D Jones

If the information is correct, this is about 5 hundred newer than mine.

Speedo and tach are not correct for this car. Obviously the other guages are not correct.

The wiring is odd looking, but I give them a B for ingenuity, they converted a more modern voltage regulator to work for the TD. The coil hanger is creative (I am being nice)

The antenna hole (and dent) in the cowl is something you wonder why they did not fix. No driver wiper either.

The white axle tubes is interesting,

If this went cheep enough, it could be not a bad project.

Oh and did you notice the door latches? Another creative "fix"
Bruce Cunha

The door latches look like they're borrowed from a Land Rover.
John Quilter (TD8986)

Check trout the lift shots, the front pads on the lift are under THE TUB!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rear are under the frame at least... I guess the sills are in good shape.

Check out the picture below Rod. Looks like the heater hoses are actually routed through the side of the tool box, of course this would keep everything up high.

Rich (TD 3983) Taylor

Where are you folks finding these images? I just get the ones going around and around the car with and without the hood. Bud
Bud Krueger

Bud, keep scrolling waaayyy down.

Jud
J K Chapin

Look at how they placed this car on the lift. The front pads are lifting on the tub, not the frame. I wouldn't trust these people with a bicycle.

D. Sander

Check out these door panels and the door locks

D. Sander

Here is the money shot, check out the wiring, and the ignition coil.
-David.

Found 'em. I like that suspended fuel filter. Looks mas if there's a red square fuel pump just above the tail pipe. Wonder what the heavy cable is that's going up over the radiator. Bud
Bud Krueger

Well, they had to put the coil somewhere, 'cause there was sure no room left on the firewall!
George Butz

Well, I have to say it.
At least this chap did it with an MG.
Hell - he could have brought a U-go or a Trabant but he kept an MG TD alive - Just .
That makes it alright in my book.

Who knows what the circumstances were that led to all this innovation?

Bet he (or she) had a lot of fun driving it too. :)
Rod
R D Jones

It's like a TD built by someone who'd only heard about TDs, never seen one....
Rob Edwards

I have a door latch like that on my tractor shed.
Bruce Cunha

Might not be the worlds "best" TD but I agree with Rod.

Ian

Ian Fry

I agree with Rod also, but one thing has me curious, I'd sure like to see inside that tool box! That setup might be for warming up some soup or keeping some tea warm. LOL. PJ
Paul S Jennings

Paul, maybe they have a heater core in the bottom of the box with a fan above, with the right cut outs and openings it would work.
Rich (TD 3983) Taylor

The antenna hole in the cowl is something you wonder why they did at all.
Definitely never folded the screen down with it on!

"The Beverly Hills Car Club is famous for all sorts of wacky TD's."

That's absolutely true Chris, however now they have this one up for sale:
http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1952-mg-td--c-2544.htm
Obviously they don't know what they have as it's priced the same as the other TD's. Although the chassis has Andrex dampers allround, the engine seems standard ???
Always worth restoring IMHO ??!!

NICK (TD3232)
Nick Herwegh

Nick

I would agree. Another that could be driven as is, or brought back to a full restoration.

What is with the front pan? never seen that before. Also like the valve cover breather fix. If noting else, you can't say MG owners are not creative.
Bruce Cunha

Guys, guys, guys! Don't pick on a poor orphan. They only want $14,750 for it. If you want to see a REAL classic TD, go to this car:http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1952-mg-td-roadster-c-1972.htm

I can't tell which is more unusual: the spare tire cover (if only it spun as you drove...), the pin-striping (makes it look like a kit-car) or the interior (makes it look like - well, a whorehouse). I also like the fuel pump mounting, the dash, and ... Forget it...

Or look at this: http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1952-mg-td-roadster-c-2068.htm
with a remarkable dash and interior. A true survivor, like all the others they sell! Does anyone else feel they may have all come from, the same source?

C'mon on Tom.
Don't tell me you didn't spot the green MkII !!!
Seems a genuine MkII although it has some "suspect" parts. Late bonnet and gauges but early (non finned) sump and control box (including the fuses)?! "Bitsa" or original ???!!!
Nick Herwegh

Nick - I looked, I saw, and paused! I suspect it is a bitsa based on a genuine Mark II - hence the Andri and hood bulge. There are no twin fuel pumps although I THINK I can see holes for the second bracket, no second fuel line, and smaller carbs. Perhaps a replaced engine, but who knows without the numbers? Much fiddled-with, in any case.

I asked for the numbers, but have not yet heard. I'll let you know!

Tom
t lange

Nick - we are right - it IS a TD/C, per the chassis stamping. But the helpful seller was confused because it has the phony ID plate from an earlier and completely unrelated TD, and the engine seem to have been replaced - probably only, since they can't find an engine number in either location. Right bonnet, shocks, diff, wrong engine and wrong carbs, one fuel pump and line.

A fair price, I would say; maybe a touch high. Another one for my TD/C list!

I have to say that this shop appears to find a number of TD's. For that I will give them a high five. Any shop that gets more TD's out on the road, I can go for.

As for the cars. Well is is Southern California. The land of interesting cars.
Bruce Cunha

Bruce - I agree with you, up to a point. Look at the entire inventory of this shop - with a few exceptions, it seems to deal in cripples, chopped cars, engine-less hulks, and most beyond economical repair. It's like someone discovered a junkyard deep in the underbrush, untouched for many years. For every decent car there are ten that have barely survived.

While anything CAN be restored, these are pretty sad, and almost every one a pig in a poke - the best the seller seems to be able to say is "engine turns freely by hand."
