MG TD TF 1500 - professional rebuild issues

I recently had two items rebuilt, a fuel pump and wiper motor. The fuel pump I got back yesterday and installed it last night. It leaks worse now than before it was rebuilt. At each click a small squirt of gas comes out of a small hole in the bottom of the pump. I have left two phone messages and an email with zero response. I am hoping this indivdual is just out of town, but he sure got back to me quickly when I was looking for someone to rebuild the pump.I don't think it is right to name names yet, it will only cause problems. Does anyone have an ideal what would cause this leak.

Second, I received the rebuilt wiper motor weeks ago and had to order the mounting hardware from AS so I installed it this past weekend. When the blades go from right to left(sitting in the td - 1952) the motor locks up.If unlatch it, the blades may swing for an extended period or 1/2 times before locking up. At first installation, there was not enough power to move the blades - put two coats of rain x on the windscreen and pulled the blades out from the windscreen as far as possible and still be able to tighten them. I emailed the rebuilder and he just will not respond. Maybe I am just having a bad week. These guys are recommended on the board many times. Also, when the motor locks(with a 20 amp fuse - it blows, a 30 amp fuse does not). The motor does seem to work ok without the blades attached. I have tried with the td started just in case the battery was low - same result and the battery is not low. It sure is disappointing to pay and then have theses problems with no help from the rebuilders, but give them the benefit since they may be out of town. Any ideals - sorry so long and thanks for help.

Tim, I am sorry to hear that you have had such a bad run of luck with parts "restorers". For me this reinforces the value of word-of-mouth recommendations such as we can receive on this board.
May I suggest that Rain-X type products AND wipers may be a bad combination as the wipers will tend to smear the water rather than wipe the water. (Have others had the same experience?) I am happy to use Rain-X and forget the wipers.
Let us know if you get some satisfactory answers from these guys.
Good luck,
Matthew.

You can pull the cover off the wiper motor and watch the motor turn... wonder if the grease is too thick in the gearbox side? Does it 'lock up' as in crunch to a stop, or just slow to a stop?

Thanks guys
The entire movement is slow, it does not slow to a stop, it just(crunch) stops. Is there supposed to be a positive stop(lock) on the left because if I pull the knob to me(I think pull as opposed to push) the motor starts working again. The best way for me to describe the lock is that it appears I could lock the blades in place, there is also a positive lock on the right side - there is some type of spring inside that keeps tension until unlocked. Only the blade swing does not travel far enough to the right to lock - I have to lock the right manually to keep the blades in place. Hope this makes sense.

I plan to use only the rain x , I need to the wipers to work in order to get a state inspection that is required in Virginia.

Good news
Got an email about the fuel pump with an appology w/ an offer to fix it postage paid by the rebuilder. As suggested before he was out of town. BTW rebuilders were selected from the board. I am a new owner, but put a lot of faith in this board.

Tim - Ok, I missed that, how do you get to the 'board' Gary
Gary P

Hi Tim, So far I have had 100% good experiences dealing with MG parts/repairs/suppliers mentioned on this board, and otherwise. Yes, sometimes new and rebuilt things can go bad. I had a temp gauge that took 2 tries to fix, and rebuilt shocks that leaked after 3 years. In both cases, the rebuilder promplty took care of the issues for no charge. I don't know how many times I have carefully fixed, repaired, rebuilt, and tested something that initially worked fine, only to have it fail, leak, or not work right later on. Most likely you will get your wiper fixed. Good luck.
Gary- this is the "board", as in "Bulletin Board"
